Prompt: What if Sophie was found by a councllior instead of Alden/Fitz? []

Oralie’s POV:

The pink flowers that were lined alongside Oralie’s castle looked especially pink that day. Or maybe it was just Oralie.

“Oralie!” She heard a voice say.

She nearly jumped as she saw Kenric come up to her. “Oh, hi Kenric,” she greeted.

Then she looked around, just to make sure no one was watching. Since they were councillors, they couldn’t have a romantic relationship. There technically was an option, but that would mean giving up your seat on the Council, and Oralie knew that Kenric would sacrifice their…. relationship if it meant being able to change their world for the better.

Oralie, on the other hand, wished she could be the selfless. She wanted it all. Being on the Council, being a mother, and have Kenric, and she had found a way.

And speaking of which, she had to go soon.

“Sorry Kenric, I have to go somewhere,” she said softly, smiling a bit.

He nodded, “Of course, though where are you going wearing those clothes?” He gestured at her simple pink gown, which was simple in elvin standards, though was fancy in the human world.

She lowered her gaze. Oralie knew she shouldn’t tell him, but…. this was Kenric, she could trust him.

“Can we go inside?” She asked hastily. Oralie couldn’t stay long, she had to go to the location before the Black Swan realized that she knew where Project Moonlark was.

He nodded, “Of course.”

Once they were inside, he turned to her with a frown, “So….what were you going to say?”

She let out a shaky breath. This was it. She was finally going to tell someone her secret. The secret she’d kept for 12 years, in order to have a daughter. Even if it meant that whoever she was, she’d likely hate Oralie when the time came, but it was better than not ever having a child.

So Oralie told him everything. From the day the Black Swan gave her a note, asking if she wanted to change the world,  and after a week of thinking, she met them, regardless of the risks that they might be bad. Then after she gave her DNA how she’d never seen Project Moonlark, and how that was going to change. Today.

“So….” she replied nervously, looking up at him once she finished telling him everything, “You-you’re not going to tell anyone, right?” She asked quietly.

He let out a breath, “I...I think that you did what you thought was right, and now we have to face the consequences.”

“We?”

Kenric nodded, and then looked thoughtful for a second. “You said that you’re going to meet her today, how about  I come with you?” He offered.

She beamed, “Thank you,” Oralie said, grateful for the support.

An hour later, after Kenric found some human clothes, they were both ready to go.

She stepped into the light with Kenric’s hand holding her’s, giving her the strength to finally meet Project Moonlark. Her daughter.

Sophie’s POV

Music blasted into Sophie’s ears, drowning the sharp voices around her.

Just then, someone snagged her earbuds off.

“Mrs.Foster!” Mr.Sweeney said, displaying her earbuds to her classmates whose thoughts turned to her. They weren’t particularly nice. “Why are you listening to music when I’m giving a lesson?” He asked accusingly.

She shrunk, wishing that she could disappear. “I….”

He sighed, not waiting for the rest of her sentence, and rubbed his head and muttered something about her as they moved onto the next exhibit.

Then, she noticed two figures watching her.

The man had fiery red hair, and looked like a football player. He was holding yesterday’s newspaper, which had her photo on the front page.

The woman next to him looked like someone straight out of a Disney movie. Her delicate ringlets and simple yet beautiful pink gown suited her.

“Is this you?” The man asked, in a slightly different accent. She couldn’t pinpoint whether it was British or something else, and that confused her.

She turned red as he repeated the question, “Yeah.”

He nodded, and exchanged a look with the woman, who was staring at Sophie as though she was the universe.

Then she frowned slightly, “You have….brown eyes,” she sounded disappointed. She had the same accent as the man, but her voice sounded how Disney princesses would, but with a weird British accent.

Sophie was confused. What did she have against brown eyes?

Then, the man stretched out his arm, “I’m Kenric and this is Oralie. Can you come with us?” He asked.

It took a second for Sophie’s mind to process everything he had said. No way was she going with them!

“Uh...no,” she said, backing away slowly.

As soon as she came near the exit, she started running.

She heard footsteps trailing behind her. “Sophie, wait!” She heard the woman call, her voice somehow still sounding delicate.

Sophie paused slightly, not sure why she did so, but then she noticed Kenric and Oralie stopping too for a second, as they started coughing.

The fires were horrible, but Sophie had never seen anyone be so….drained by them.

“Are you okay?” She asked, despite her brain screaming to get away from them.

Kenric smiled, “I am, but we should talk.”

Sophie obliged. Something about him, his aura of kindness and confidence, eased her, and for some reason she felt safe around them.

Oralie opened her mouth, but didn’t say anything as she just continued to stare at Sophie as she had done in the museum.

After a second, she blinked and said, “Well Sophie…..I’ll just tell you it clearly, you’re an elf.”

Sophie started laughing, thinking that they were joking, but when she saw their solemn expressions, she just gaped.

“Yeah, you guys are crazy,” she decided.

“But you’re a Telepath,” Kenric casually said, “you can hear the minds of the humans around you.”

Sophie froze. “Ho-how do you know?” She demanded.

He shrugged, “We have the answers, but it’s your choice if you want to find out the truth or not.” He looked at Oralie, as though he was waiting for her to say something, but when she saw his expression, she shook her head sadly, confusing Sophie.

What was going on?

Kenric then pulled out a sparkly wand, or whatever that was.

A giggle escaped Sophie’s mouth, “Is that a wand?” She asked.

Oralie smiled for once. “No Sophie, it is a Pathfinder. Just hold our hands and we’ll show you the truth of what you really are.”

Sophie hesitated, then grabbed onto Oralie’s outstretched hand and stepped into the light, finally ready for the truth.
