While most abilities manifest on their own, sometimes they need a little boost.

How This Occurs[]

When someone is triggering an ability they send bursts of energy into the part of someone's mind where abilities are developed. It can be tiring, however, both for the person who is triggering the ability and the person who wants the ability triggered.

When This Has Happened[]

Pre-Keeper[]

Sophie had had her Telepathy triggered at the age of five when she hit her head on concrete. Mr. Forkle took advantage of her being unconscious and triggered her Telepathy.

Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities[]

Towards the end of the book, Sophie was still in a bit of a daze but she remembered bursts of energy filling her mind. When she woke up she was a Polyglot and an Inflictor. Mr. Forkle had been the one triggering her ability. She also remembers feeling like she was five again, when Mr. Forkle first triggered her Telepathy.

Book 5: Lodestar[]

Two people have their abilities triggered in Lodestar; Sophie (again) and Marella. Marella went to Mr. Forkle begging to get her abilities triggered, in hopes of manifesting as an Empath to help her mother. Marella got quite dizzy afterwards and has to sit down. It is later revealed that despite her wishes to get Empathy, she manifested as a Pyrokinetic. Marella seemed to regret her decision a bit, but Mr. Forkle reassured her that her pyrokinesis was so strong, he doubted it would have stayed dormant for long.

Sophie had a choice on whether to trigger the ability to Enhancer or allow it to stay dormant. Sophie decides to trigger it so she can finally get an upper hand in the fight against the Neverseen.

Book 8: Legacy[]

Keefe has an ability triggered in a different and much less natural way. It was forced onto Keefe by Lady Gisela. Also in Book 8, Sophie got her abilities reset, which is possible due to the "flexibility" of her genes.

Abilities

Additional Facts[]

  • Elves cannot choose what ability they want. It all depends on genetics and DNA (except for Keefe's case).
  • Mr. Forkle and Lady Gisela are the only ones to trigger abilities in the books, though they both do it in a different way.
  • Lady Gisela messed with the elements in order to trigger an ability in Keefe.
  • After attempting to trigger someone's ability, both the person triggering the ability and the person who wanted the ability triggered get very tired and/or dizzy.
  • Sometimes triggering does not work if the elf's mind is not ready to manifest.
