Tiergan Andrin Alenefar, also known as Granite, is a secondary character in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series.

He is a Telepath and Sophie's Mentor at Foxfire. He also teaches Fitz Vacker. He is also a part of the Collective of Black Swan.

Nicknames

He does not like being called Sir Tiergan, preferring just Tiergan. During Neverseen, Tiergan is revealed to be Granite, part of the Collective of the Black Swan.

Appearance

Tiergan is described to have olive skin, shoulder-length pale blond hair, and dark blue eyes. It also states that he has a short ponytail on the back of his head. While his face holds youth, something ancient shines in his eyes. He is described as tall and lean, but slightly shorter than Alden, and is considered to be one of the most challenging elves to win a friendship with .

As Granite, he is described to look like a vague, bulky statue, due to the Indurite (a type of chalk) he consumes.

Tiergan was one of the most talented Telepaths before Sophie Foster came, which is why he was appointed as her Mentor.

Wylie Endal

• Adoptive son

Wylie was adopted by Tiergan after both of his parents were lost. Tiergan is shown to be very protective of Wylie in all of the books, especially after Wylie was attacked by the Neverseen.

Prentice Endal

• Best friend, possible love interest

Prentice and Tiergan were very close—so close that Tiergan was first in line to adopt Wylie before Wylie's actual family. When Prentice's mind was broken, Tiergan was full of grief and blamed Alden for the incident because Alden was the one who accused Prentice of rebellion.

Sophie Foster

• Prodigy

Tiergan came back from retirement to Foxfire to teach Sophie. He respects her a lot and believes in her abilities and ideas and trusts her to make good decisions.

Alden Vacker

• Frenemy/Co-worker

Tiergan has a lot of anger towards Alden, blaming him for the loss of Prentice. He seems to gain more respect for Alden, however, after he finds Sophie. He also is able to get past his own feelings to help the Vacker family with the grief of the loss of Alden when his mind is broken.

In Book 4: Neverseen it was revealed that Tiergan works on the Collective under the name Granite with Mr. Forkle and it was suggested that the two could be friends or relatively close seeing how the two are around one another more than their other fellow Collective members.

In Book 3: Everblazeand Book 2: Exile, Fitz began attending Sophie's telepathy class with Tiergan. Even though he told Alden he would never train any Vackers, he ended up doing so.

History

Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities

In Keeper of the Lost Cities, Tiergan is Sophie's Telepathy mentor. He is also angry at Alden for being involved in breaking Prentice's mind. He also takes Sophie to a Forbidden City and tells her a little about the Black Swan. However, he refused to tell her how he knew so much about the organization.

Book 4: Neverseen

In Neverseen, Tiergan is in much of the book. It is also learned that he is Granite, a member of the Collective.

Tiergan Andrin Alenfar is a telepathy mentor at Foxfire, adoptive father of Wylie Endal, and a member of the Black Swan under the alias of Granite. He lives at Solreef as mentioned in Unlocked, and is a Telepath, reinforced by his career at Foxfire, mentioned earlier. After his best friend Prentice Endal was subjected to a memory break performed by Quinlin Sonden and Alden Vacker, he took in the orphaned Wylie as his own, and resented the Vacker family for Alden's role in Prentice's condition. He's interacted with Sophie Foster as both Granite and Sir Tiergan.
