(Can't think of a clever opening :L) This is a roleplay where you play as a Prodigy of Foxfire in the basic levels (Level 1-6 aka ages 11-16.)
No swearing. If you say something anyone finds offensive, you will be asked to edit or remove your post.
Use proper grammar. Start a new paragraph any time another character speaks to avoid confusion.
Roleplay in third person and use quotation marks when your character is speaking. Example: The girl walked up to her father. "Hello." She said, waving.
One talent only (With the exception of Polyglots, but only pair it common abilities such as Conjurer, Vanisher or Voiciferator.)
Don't post a character form if you don't intend on being active. If you know you'll be gone for a long period of time, so we can plan accordingly. If you choose to be inactive, you cannot get angry if we move on without you.
This roleplay takes place in a different universe than the books. No referencing characters in the books (including Councillors, Mentors and families.) Technically you could use a last name from the books but you would not be a relative to Vackers or Ruewens. Try to come up with a unique last name. If you can't, I'd reccomend this site: https://coollastnames.com
Appearance: Aileen has pale skin, round midnight blue eyes and long medium-curly hair that falls to her waist, 5'1 in height and has soft, gentle features
Ability: Mesmer (Note: no abusing strong talents. If not yet manifested or talented, put that there instead. If your character is talentless they must be under the age of 14.)
Personality: She is a timid, shy character who is quite naive an gullible. She does well in her classes except for P.E. She enjoys Elementalism though her ability classes freak her out.
Crest (optional): A small four-petaled sapphire flower with a gold stem and center.
Limit to 6 main characters (Main character meaning one you consistently play. Occasionally filling in as a character's parent or Mentor doesn't count.) If you have multiple main characters, a character form is required for each one.
Please keep track of where others are at in the story. If someone's elf is at lunch, don't have yours already heading home from school. Preferably post your character's schedule(s) so things don't get confusing.

Aileen frowned as her parents leapt away. She turned nervously to her aunt- or, adopted aunt- Maire. "Do I still have to go to Foxfire tomorrow?" She had tried everything to get out of school. Faking sick didn't work in a world of elixirs that could cure the flu faster than you could sneeze, so she'd resorted to sympathy and tears.
"What's with you and not wanting to go to school? Most Prodigies love attending Foxfire." Maine said sternly, but not in a mean way. "You learn so many interesting skills there! And you /have/ to take your ability courses."
The ability courses were one of the big reasons Aileen didn't want to go back. Her Mentor, the only known Mesmer other than her in the Nobility, seemed crazy and she didn't like training to control other elves. "Lady Darerca freaks me out."
Maisie studied her reflection in her mirror, examining her Level Three uniform. She never liked wearing it, but today for some reason, it made her feel especially ugly. The amber shade didn't go with her eyes and the clasp on her cape was irritating her neck.
It also didn't help that there had been some rumors flying around about her in the Foxfire atrium. Rumors that weren't in the least bit true. Maisie knew it. Her friends knew it. At least, she hoped they did. She'd heard some whispers fly around them whenever she crossed the campus. She noticed one girl give her a poilte smile before heading to class.
Aileen looked down at her feet. Her adopted parents had decided they didn't want her until her powers were more controlled. They made it seem like it was just a vacation, but to her it felt like total abandonment. She could always sense that the two didn't love her like they loved their real daughters.
"Oh, stop." Maire sighed. "You made friends, didn't you? It'll get better, and you'll learn to love your classes."
Aileen gave up arguing. "Fine. I'm going." She mumbled, biting her lip. Everything about Foxfire made her anxious. She was one of the few Level Twos who had manifested before Midterms, and most Prodigies didn't trust her at all. Even since being invited into Maisie's group, she worried they secretly hated her.
When Maisie crossed the hall and stood in the Foxfire atrium, she noticed Aileen standing by herself across the hall. Hoping that none of the gossip about her had gotten to the younger girl, she approached her slowly, ready with a smile and a box of Prattles.
Maisie forced a smile and held out the box of Prattles. She waited for Aileen to take it and bite into the nutty candy before pulling out a Prattles Kelpie.
"That's for good luck," Maisie told her, pointing to the pin. She looked at Aileen and the girl's face told her that she knew that Maisie had avoided the question. "Whatever they say about me, it's not true, okay, Aileen? You trust me, right?"
Aileen smiled. "I don't have a Prattles' kelpie. And of course." She knew enough about rumors being spread. On her first day of Level Two one of the boys in her Alchemy class lied about her Mesmerizing him into giving her homework answers. "I trust you if you trust me."
Maisie felt her heart warm as she heard these words. This girl was like the sister she'd never had. The bell rang, announcing that Maisie was late for class. Elementalism. She stifled a groan, remembering that she'd have to bottle a tornado today.
"I should get going," Maisie told Aileen. "But I'll see you at lunch, okay? You wanna sit with my friends and me?"
"Sure." Aileen said, forcing her voice to be cheerful. But sitting with Maisie's friends always made her self-conscious. She trusted Maisie, but she didn't know her friends so well. They were all so much cooler than her, and relaxed. /And older./ She thought. Sometimes she worried that she was like an annoying little kid to them. Maisie didn't make her feel anxious, though. "I have P.E." /With Milos. Great./
Milos was one of the most confusing boys in Level Two to Aileen. She could never tell if he was being humorous or rude. He had a very boisterous, almost obnoxious personality. /If he hates me, why does he always partner with me?/ Maybe it was just to be mean to her. But his actions weren't exactly mean, just... snarky.
Aileen hated her Monday schedule the most. P.E. was the only class that was truly difficult for her. Ability Training was just her using her Talent- which she was naturally good at- except that she hated being a Mesmer, and Lady Darerca always acted like a power-crazed Pyrokinetic. She always said such shady things such as "You could overpower a room of the most skilled elves if you trained hard enough." A loud voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Levitation today! Everyone get up and moving!" Aileen could never understand how Lady Anya could be so energetic and passionate about forcing her students to exhaust themselves with flying around the gym. /She's so good at levitating. How can she be so good?/
Maisie blinked once. Then again. A thought as ridiculous as anything flew into her head as her Lady Hester leaned over her with a look that made Maisie feel sick to her stomach.
"I'm not feeling well," she moaned. She realized that she was lying on the floor. Lady Hester nodded briskly and shuffled soemthing silver into her cloak. Maisie recognized it as...could it be...a...melder? No! That was ridiculous!
"I need to see Elwin, or go early to lunch or something," Maisie insisted.
"Right away, I'll inform Elwin of your arrival," Lady Hester replied.
Maisie struggled to stand up and race out of the classroom, her head whirling with thoughts to complicated to comprehend. She needed to talk to someone. Because she was pretty sure her mentor just used a melder on her.
Aileen heard a noise from outside the gym. She'd just started floating, but the sound had caught her off-guard and she fell. It sounded not just like running, but heavy footsteps clapping on the ground. "Lady Anya? Something'similar going on outside."
The Mentor frowned, landing on the ground. "This had better not be an excuse to miss a few minutes of class."
I was going to the restroom when I saw a Maise , a level 3 like myself, run down the hall, then a second later a mentor rushed out in the opposite direction, So due to my natural curiosity I followed the mentor outside. When I got outside I tripped on a rock and fell into a bush making a noise loud enough to wake up someone who drank a gallon of slumberberry tea.
Maisie found herself wandering the campus. She shifted her satchel self-consciously, not feeling like her normal, bubbly self. She quickly darted into the girl's restroom before she could get caught by any bodyguards patrolling campus. She opened her thoughts to the first person she thought of and transmitted, Help, I'm scared.
Appearance: Natural hair is a plain black and stops right blow her shouders but Paeris colors random chunks different colors everyday. She's short around 4'11 but wears boots so she looks taller. Her eyes are an electric indigo color.
Personality: She's really confident and has a strong temper and character, though that probably has something to do with how sensitive she is and how much she wants to prove herself and stand out against all her brothers.
Crest (optional): A wilting rose with a dragon near it.
Paeris looked at her brother Milos with a raised eyebrow, "Soooooo that's her huh?"
Milos looked back at her with an exasperated sigh, then catching the red juicy fruit on her tray made a grab for it and nodded.
Paeris nodded back as she looked again at the girl- Aileen- that her brother had finally spilled to her about.
Paeris examined her and the three girls near her- she knew one of them was Blanche and had heard a few rumors about the one called Maisie.
"She's cute and she looks nice so," Paeris looked back at her brother again, "I guess that means opposites do attract."
Milos gave her an unamused stare, "Ha.Ha. I'm laughing. What are you doing here anyway?"
She rolled her eyes, "You know why I'm here you were at the family meeting. Mom and Dad want me to get some friends and all- which makes no sense since they homeschooled me for like two years and I was fine then."
Her brother's unamused stare was becoming a regular expression these days, "You faked sick and got your arm broken like twice to stay at home so they really had no choice. Besides the only reason you're here is because Berns ruined your pride when it was his turn to go to Foxfire. And the fact that you have no friends has more to do with you than homeschooling."
Ouch, not pulling any punches today are you bro.
Her two older brothers both laughed finally drawing themselves away from their food to look at Paeris while doing it. There was absolutely no way he was gonna get away with that. She looked around trying to come up with a revenge plot- her eyes landed on Aileen again. She smirked.
Paeris picked up her tray and got up. Milos tracked her movement almost instantly.
"What are you doing Pae," he asked cautiously.
Good, he should fear me.
"Well dear brother o'mine," She feigned an innocent look as she looked at Milos, "I've decided that you are right. I am in severe need of friends particularily the female ones and since you have spoken such lovely things about that Aileen of yours I've decided that she must be the one. We'll have such a grand time together- braiding each others hair, painting our toes a different color of the rainbow...talking about crushes."
Milos had a pale look on his face. Somewhere in her rant his hand had shot up and caught her wrist to stop her.
"You wouldn't dare," he said sounding more than a little uncertain.
"Oh Mills," Paeris said vanishing so that Milos would let go of her hand in alarm, "of course I would."
She then reappeared and strutted away adding a lot of attitude in her walk as she walked confidently to the girls' table.
Paeris sat down next to crush girl-Aileen and smirked back at her brother. She looked at Aileen and morphed her smirk into a genuine smile. Despite all her teasing Aileen really did seem like a nice person and it was a good start to making friends.
"Hi, I'm Paeris Keron. I'm Milos' sister and you're Aileen."
Aileen jumped, caught off-guard. She literally stopped Paeris in her tracks with her Mesmerizing, releasing her almost as soon as she realized what happened. "Sorry! I didn't mean to!" She squeaked. "Yeah, I'm Aileen... how'd you know?"
Maisie watched all of this in amusion, looking back from Paeris's sly face to Aileen's slightly confused one. Blanche covered a laugh with a cough and dragged Iile away with her with a quick, "We'll be back soon, Mais."
"Okay." she glanced at them and shot a smile at Paeirs.
Paeris examined her to see if she was really serious.
She really is that oblivious.
"All good things don't worry I doubt the guy could say anything bad about you if he tried." Paeris sincerely hoped she hadn't just ruined her brothers chances- but then again he wouldn't even have any chances if the poor girl didn't have some hint. Paeris then turned to Maisie and smiled back.
"Hi Maise right? Sorry if I was bothering you guys but my brothers were annoying me with their talk about my lack of friends." She hoped that didn't come out a little weird, abrupt and/or desperate.
Paeris groaned inwardly. Making friends was a lot more complicated than her mothers how-to manuals said it was...not that she read them that is.
"Yeah! Hi. And you're Paeris?" Maisie asked. She was curious to open her mind to Paeris's thoughts to see if what she thought was going on actually was going on. She knew it was against the Telepath's rules, but she was curious. But she figured she didn't need to when she saw a boy who looked a bit like Paeris blush beet red and turn around quickly. She scooted aside Blanche and Iile's lunch things and made room for their new acquaintence.
Aileen bit her lip, trying to process what Paeris had said. Was she only trying to embarrass her brother? /Maybe he likes me, but I don't want to assume./ She felt like it would be vain and narcissistic to jump to conclusions like that. /Well, if he did, he probably thinks I'm a freak now for Mesmerizing his sister./
Appearance: A bit tall for her age, she has thick, volumous, mousy brown hair that is cut just below her chin. She has a beauty mark/mole just below her eye, and a constant aloof expression. Her eyes are baby blue.
Personality: Ophelia is aloof and lazy, seeming to care only for herself. She’s sassy/snarky when she does talk, but she rarely approaches people. She’s easily manipulative, even when she’s not using her ability. She doesn’t trust easily, and can be a bit mysterious.
Crest: A feather surrounded by mist
Multispeciesial Studies (did I spell that right? Eh idc)
(Uh, so this is my first time role playing on wiki, I’ve role played on other sites before, but never this one, so, just saying in case I mess up)
Ophelia sat in the corner of the room, playing with the ends of her sleeves and chewing the inside of her cheek. The cafeteria was remarkably loud, as students around her were chatting and giggling. Although, she supposed that wasn't too surprising.
Ophelia glanced down at the book she was reading, and brushed a lock of mousy brown hair behind her ear. Ophelia Stilwell, reading? What a shock, she thought sarcastically. Her thoughts were interrupted when a girl beside her with a nasal voice started talking- no, YELLING to her friend.
So much for reading, Ophelia thought bitterly, as she scanned the cafeteria. There were a group of people in the center, a few of who she recognized, and at least one that she didn't.
It was odd that they caught her attention, but then again, it was sort of hard to NOT notice the chunks of bright dye in one of the girls' hair. They reminded her of Elion, and his blue hair. Unfortunately, the comparison brought up a few memories.
Wincing, she turned away, and slid out of her seat to talk to one of the younger students at her table. They had a fancy, elegant looking bracelet on, and she knew the younger ones were more gullible.
With a few sly words to them that were sickeningly sweet, Ophelia reached in for a hug, and slipped the fancy jewelry from their wrist as she did so. The stupid 1st Level wouldn't be needing them anyway, she remarked mentally, sneaking off so that nobody would notice her.
Aileen squinted, noticing the trick Ophelia had pulled. /Why doesn't she just buy herself a bracelet?/ She wondered, turning her head back before the stranger noticed. She didn't want to be seen as creepy or weird for staring.
Maisie turned her head to glance behind her. Aileen had been frowning a second before, but Maisie saw nothing out of the ordinary so she shrugged and took a bite out of a butterblast. A prickling idea was set into her mind and she longed to open her thoughts to the people around her. No one would know, and besides, it's not like anybody here had anything to hide. If anything, she had a good reason to. Her mentor has tried to use a melder on her! She flinched, remembering. She had totally forgotten about Lady Hester. The butterblast turned sour in her mouth. Maybe she should tell somebody. She glanced at Aileen and Paeris who were talking, and wondered if she could trust them. Paeris seemed nice, and Aileen was definietly trustworthy. More so than Iile or Blanche.
Crystal was sipping a cup of lushberry juice by herself. Having friends was as likely as growing wings and flying to her. She noticed two girls whom she recognized, Aileen and Paeris was it? People’s conversations were none of her business so she turned back to her thoughts. She remembered that Ability class was next on her schedule. Lady Hana was sure to be harsh on her. She stopped drinking her juice and took out a piece of paper, it was a project she had been working on. Making objects and shapes out of ice was something she already accomplished, but she wanted to make something more advanced. Her first idea was weapons, that was shut down, Buildings? Too large. People? Too intricate. She sighed and made a few ice cubes for her drink. Her own ideas just didn’t fit.
Aileen glanced at Maisie, seeing a perplexed look on her face. "Are you okay?" She's almost forgot about Maisie and her running in the halls. /Something must be going on for her to run out of class without a hall pass; and for Lady Hester to not chase after her./
Paeris looked straight at Maisie and used a method she used with her brothers when she wanted them to spill. Bringing her face close to Maisie's and opening her eyes wide she uttered one word using all the force in her body.
"Speak." she said. Then quickly retracted and sat down as if nothing happened.
Maisie's eyes widened as the words tumbled freely from her mouth.
"My mentor, Lady Hester, paralyzed me with a melder in class. She was so scary today and then she sprinted off after I left class to 'head' to Elwin's office. Lady Hester just...I don't know. I feel like she's bad. She wants something. I just don't know what."
Within a second, Maisie wondered if Paeris had Beguiled her. She was very tempted to open her thoughts to her new friend's but did want to invade her privacy like that.
"What if she /kills/ you?" Aileen whispered. "No information is worth risking your life for. What if she threatens to kill you next time you go to her class and you'll have missed your chance to do something about it?" Maybe she was just being paranoid, but Aileen's mind always jumped to the worst situations.
Maisie shrugged. "Like I said, I don't know. I had just told her I was ready to bottle a tornado and then she gave me this creepy grin and said we were bottling lightning instead. And then there was the flash. Really bright. And I felt pain and I fell and I couldn't do anything. I think I even blacked out." she shivered, struck by Aileen's words. But like Paeris said, there was no need to fret over what they didn't even know.
Glancing over to Aileen’s and Paeris’s table, Crystal saw another girl join. She could tell that their conversation was tense. Her brain told her not to intercept, but if they were in trouble she didn’t want anything to happen to them. Curling and uncurling her fists she made a bold move and walked over to their table. “Not to be nosy” she said softly “ But I could tell that you look troubled, and I just wanted to see if it wasn’t anything serious”.
Aileen frowned at Crystal. "It's not my business to tell." She glanced at Maisie. /I'd be careful about who knows. If you tell the wrong people, word will spread and you'll definitely be in trouble then./
Maisie glanced at the new girl at their table and bit her lip. "Just some trouble with my Mentor," she said with a forced smile. Quickly, because she was afraid that she hurt Crystal's feelings, she said, "If it makes you feel any better, I don't totally know myself. She just dislikes me is all."
Maisie could tell that Crystal didn't look convinced, so she added, "Do you know Paeris and Aileen?"
I phased through the wall and ran away as fast as I could to the cafeteria and upon coming in I slowed so no one would ask any questions. Maybe I should ask Maisie about it later I thought to myself "no I won't" said aloud leaving the lunch Lady with a confused look.
Then I saw her talking to her friends with a concerned look,so I decided to go to talk to her b/c she was probably talking to her friends about it and the more people she tells the quicker it spreads. With how suspicious this was looking, this wouldn't be a secret I want spreading
So I went over and asked Maisie "how many people have you told?"
"It doesn't matter" I said to someone who had asked who I am, then turned to Maisie and asked to talk to her somewhere else, realizing my mistake of asking her about how many people she had told in front of all her friends.
But Maisie could hardly stand the looks on Paeris and Aileen's faces. And Crystal also looked confused. She didnt want to lie anymore. And it hadn't even been her fault. It was a rumor. A rumor that was nothing more than a lie.
Paeris looked at both of them. Maisie and the boy- Hugo.
"And how exactly would you know if it's safe to tell us when it's obvious that you don't know as much as you'd like? Look there's obviously something going on and it's big. Really really big. This isn't a matter of whether or not to tell us to keep us safe. It's about whether you trust us enough to tell us and whether we choose to know whatever it is you're about to say."
She shot a glance at Aileen and Crystal.
"Maisie you look like a good person and the things that are going down are dangerous and I should probably make the safe choice- but I've never been one to make the best descisions. So whatever it is that's about to happen, I'm in."
"Maybe we should take her silence as a hint." Aileen whispered, automatically feeling guilty. /Of course she doesn't want to talk about an embarrassing rumor and terrifying experience with her Mentor./ She glanced up at the clock. The bell was due to ring in six minutes. "Do you want to sit together at study hall? We could pass notes."
Maisie waved at Aileen as she turned in the opposite direction to head to her next class. "It's not that. I just need to think for a minute. I'll see you later!"
She followed Hugo down the hall and lowered her voice as they passed glancing prodigies. "How much do you think I should tell them? That the teachers here are part of the Neverseen and that you and I are trying to stop them?"
"no" I said to Maisie "maybe less specific, like something weird is going on and some of the teachers are involved, aside from that I'm worried that the vanisher, Paeris, might take it upon herself to check what we're up to... Wait aren't you a telepath"
"Yes," Maisie said, surprised that Hugo had to ask. She lowered her voice as a few prodigies did a double take, seeing her and then hastily whispering to their friends. "But I can't just invade people's privacy like that, Hugo. Someone might find out and I could get in massive trouble for that. And lying won't cover it. I'm good at lying, but an Empath could see right through me. And a Telepath. My blocking skills have never been that great."
Paeris watched from next to Milos as Hugo turned left in one of the winding hallways in Foxfire.
"Oh no, I know that look. Whatever you're about to do Pae- don't do it." Milos was serious she coud tell- from the way his eyebrows drew close and the set of his jaw- the jaw that she considered the most frightening part of her mother and brothers. His eyes were locked on her eyes the intensity of the electric indigo on indigo making Paeris feel like she was in the middle of a grand and dangerous light show.
Paeris won the light show this time. "It'll only be a minute. I don't like secrets and mysteries. The guy seems like he's built for secret and lies. It's suspicious."
Milos sighed, "You can't expect people to reveal every single detail of their life to you the second you meet them- it takes time for that to happen for relationships to grow."
Paeris pretended she didn't notice his look at Aileen when he said that. "Don't be a wuss- you aren't the wuss type."
"I'm not but someone's gotta make sure you don't do something stupid every other second," Milos looked decidedly more frustrated as she handed her books to him and vanished in front of his eyes.
"And she's gone- of course she's gone."
Paeris trailed close behind Hugo. Milos might have been right- maybe it would take a lot of time for all secrets to be spilled- but Paeris was never a patient person.
I walked down the hall, going to check with one of my dad's friends who was a technopath about lady Hester's registration pendant. I ran there as fast as I could, so I didn't miss to much school. When I got to his place and when I asked him if he could get records from a registry pendant
Jenson said "sure I can do that in less than a minute, who are you looking for"
"Lady hester, oh and can I trust you not to tell anyone, not even my dad" I told Jenson
"Okay got it, nothing unusual she has been at school all day, she never even stepped off campus," Jenson told me
"Thanks" I said already leaving
Before I got to the door he asked "where's your friend"
"What friend" I replied
"the alarm was tripped twice" he said
"Oh it's probably that vanisher" I hesitated trying to remember her name "paeris" "okay Paeris you've been compromised you can appear now"
Maisie jumped when she saw Hugo, glancing suspiciously between her and Paeris.
"Trust me, this is not what it looks like," she said. "Paeris was just...she was looking for you, I think. I think you forgot one of your books?" I shot Paeris a look that said help me out and I'll help you. And then I decided to transmit to her.
Look, I know you wanna know what Hugo and I are hiding, but seriously, I can't tell you here. We will tell you soon, though. I promise.
Paeris sighed and nodded. She handed him a random book she found inside the locker.
“You dropped this,” she said.
Paeris then made sure she had her lying face on. The one where you could never tell if she was lying or not. It made her feel suspicious but you could never prove it so you couldn’t blame her.
Aileen was grabbing her books; Lady Darerca always made her carry three large textbooks to her class. Mind over Matter, Understanding the Elvin Brain, and Mesmerizing: For Dummies were the titles. /What are those three doing?/ Aileen wondered, spotting Maisie, Hugo and Paeris. /It could be important.../ She dreaded to find out how her Mentor would react to her being late, but the urge was too strong. "What's up?"
"hey" I said to Aileen "so" I said addressing everyone " I'll tell you what I know and prepare to be disappointed because it isn't much, I'll start from the beginning, before lunch I saw lady hester run outside and Maisie run to the healing center then followed lady hester outside, I saw her light leap right before I tripped then after I tripped I heard a man's voice ask who was there and when he turned his back to me I phased through the wall and ran to the cafeteria, and after lunch I checked with a technopath about lady hesters registration pendant and it said she had been in school all day"
"Wait so you mean like Neverseen evil. Like destroy Atlantis evil. Like holy crap that's evil kind of evil. That is so horrible and yet that probably explains why you guys are being so secretive about it."
She paused- her indigo eyes narrowing in concentration. "But wait- what does this have to do with the rumors?"
Maisie paled. "That rumor...that was just...Do you know who Adaria Heks is? Stina Heks's cousin? Well of course you know her, she's like the most popular girl in all of Foxfire!" she sighed and shifted her stack of books on her hip. "She told a ton of girls that I cheated on my Midterm, that I read her mind to get the answers. She even told Sir Libertie! And he had a talk with my parents. He and Magnate Leto came over to Roseblade and everything! And my parents were so disappointed in me. Magnate Leto finally read my mind and knew that I was telling the truth, but Sir Libertie didn't believe him. After that all me Mentors started acting strange. Maybe it has something to do with that. For all I know, all the teachers could be bad. Anyways, Adaria told all her friends that I cheated and manipulated the mentors into letting me slide, which doesn;t even make sense since I'm not a Mesmer," she cast a look at Aileen. "I didn't mean that in a bad way. But then she told everyone that I bribed Leto cause I said I knew a dark secret of his. Ahh, its just this huge mess. I hate Adaria!"
"I've never met her." Aileen murmured. "I've been through some of the same, though not nearly as bad. People in class use me as an excuse any time they do something bad. I just wish I could work alone..." She frowned. "But that's not the issue. Everyone has to be really quiet about that, because if you're right... a small group of kids stands no chance against a gang of evil Mentors."
" well, we don't know if any other mentors are involved and I don't think there can be that many mentors involved, I don't even know if they're the bad guys" I said to everyone " but I do have a plan, it isn't much but I think it will work. For my plan all I need is for Paeris to attach this tracker" I said holding up a extremely small tracker " to lady Hester's registry pendant. It has a camera on it so we can see exactly where she goes"
"You want me to stick a tracker/camera on a possibly evil rebellion person who could probably kill me with the blink of her eye. You want me to do something potentially dangerous and almost die in the process. I knew I liked you- give it here. I'll have the job done by the end of the day. In two minutes maybe- considering how excited I am."
Maisie grinned. "I knew we could count on you! Don't go through any extra trouble though, okay? As much as I'm glad you guys will do this, we need to be super cautious. This could be a life or death situation. So if we're in, we're all in. Are you with me?"
She held her hand out and waited for them to put theirs on top of hers. They were cutting class, but that was okay.
"not much" I said to Crystal, who I knew and trusted because our families were friends and we hung out when our parents went out together " just maybe fighting an evil elvin rebellion. Wanna join?" Knowing I needed someone who I knew I could count on to join the team
Paeris smirked at Hugo, "You are officially my favorite. But no I don't think we should avoid Sir Durwood I was thinking more along the lines of figuring out what he knows. And I have the perfect idea on how to figure out."
She met each of their eyes. "Sir Durwood runs detention- and according to Milos he always leaves right in the middle of detention because he runs some club or something around that time. That leaves all the kids there free to leave anytime they want to and full access to anything he has in his office. I thought that weird at first but Milos told me that the only way to actually use any of his stuff you need a password and his voice."
Paeris stopped to look at Hugo. "You can give the voice but someone's got to figure out the password or the whole plan goes up in flames."
Paeris stopped suddenly. She grabbed all onto Maisie and Hugo's hands quickly.
"Grab on someone's coming," she hissed. She heard the tell-clicks of heels on floor and the smooth way the footsteps spread to show confidence. It was the walk of someone who was in trouble but wanted to show they had nothing to hide. Normally, Paeris heard it in the dead of night as one of her brothers snuck back in after being out to late. To hear it at school was another matter entirely.
Maisie held her breath and quickly transmitted to Aileen, Hugo, Paeris, and Crystal. I'm going to read the thoughts of Sir Durwood next time I see him. It's risky, but I need to do it.
The footsteps got louder and louder and Maisie could feel her friends tensing beside her. It took her a while to realize that she was Vanished. She'd totally forgotten that Paeris was a Vanisher. But she didn't know that Vanishers could Vanish more than one person.
"Yeah!" Maisie exclaimed. "Something simple, something generic so that teachers won't be suspicious. But not so generic that we won't even get it. I'd say Mallowmelt–cause who doesn't like that–but if we just said Mallowmelt, the teachers might be suspicious."
Paeris grabbed the tracker, saluted Hugo as he left and turned to back to the girls.
"I'll see you tomorrow- I've got a tracker to place and a password to find out," she shot her wicked grin at them, "try not to die before then 'kay?"
Paeris vanished and walked in the direction she'd seen Lady Hector walk. SHe caught up with her right as she was exiting the bathroom.
Alright, Pae how do you want to do this.
She scanned both ways of the hallway and remembered the latest prank Milos had placed on her. Quickly she ran to stand in front of Lady Hector and as softly as she could she chipped away at the floor. Lady Hectors heel got caught in it and as she stumbled to regain her balance she swiftly flicked the tracker at her registry pendant.
Paeris walked away from Lady Hector and headed for Sir Durwood's class. Thankfully he wasn't there when she got in so she headed to his desk.
Alright Durwood, where have you got that password?
She scanned everywhere she could- crouching down and checking in the drawers and moving smartly through his files of paper.
Just as she was about to give up she spotted a picture frame on his seriously cluttered desk. It was of Hector and Durwood leaning and grinning at each other-except it didn't look right. As if they had been forced to act in front of the camera. As if they had been caught unaware and were trying to do their best to seem happy.
Paeris looked at the picture and saw the small piece of paper tucked under the picture. She pulled it free and read it- making sure to commit it to memory- before she put it back as accurately as she could. She walked away from the room just in time as Sir Durwood walked back in heading straight for his desk and sitting down while looking at his imparter.
Paeris practically ran to Elwin and talked him into letting her go home early. At home she collapsed on her bed and mulled over the password. Just one word.
Aileen realized that she'd missed at least thirty minutes of study hall by now. She made her way to the library, making her way down the winding hallways of Foxfire, until she heard a voice from behind her.
"Excuse me, young lady." Is was Lady Darerca. Aileen turned around. /What if she heard us talking and she's part of the rebels?/ Was her Mentor here to kill her?
"Usually I don't stop students when they skip. If they want to throw away their life, that's on them. But then I realized it was you." Darerca continued. Her face was intense and severe and unreadable as always. "You didn't strike me as the skipping type."
Aileen chewed her lip, looking away. "I was on my way to study hall, then I realized I wanted to work on studying chapter two of the Elvin Brain textbook and went back to my locker to get it and... I got lost."
"Well, you can have this pardon as long as you show up to my class." Darerca turned away. "Take two left turns, go straight, and you'll find the library."
Looking around, Crystal headed to Study Hall. She prayed that no one noticed she was late. “Where are you heading young lady?” A voice snapped. It was Lady Hana along with Lady Ruby. “Drats” She thought caught by not one but two teachers. “I wonder how the others are doing” She thought to herself.
I had to go home early because my dad had been trying to get an appointment with a descryer and he got an opening during school. My dad told me I was early and then we left.
The descryer was named Mareth and her ears were faintly pointed. When she descryed me she said " he has lots of potential for good but also alot of potential for bad, I also sense he is very strong in his skills and in being a polygot but he doesn't have much potential for phasing"
"Wow" I thought "she must've been doing this for a long time and be really good for such specific results"
Aileen hurried to study hall, her thoughts racing so fast that they'd make a Telepath dizzy. Of all her Mentors, Lady Darerca was among the first she'd suspect of being tied to a rebel organization. Her talk of power, intense complexion and general lack of care or emotion were the first things that popped into her head.
Not only that, but the way she looked always confused Aileen. It wasn't that she was ugly, just very... plan-looking for an elf. She had straight, unstyled silver-streaked black hair which she never put up and rested flat against her head, and her features were pretty much just average. But her eyes were what really set her apart. Unlike all other elves Aileen had met with their striking, beautiful eyes of many shades of blue, Darerca's were a dull grayish blue, with maybe a little swampy green mixed in. Was it all just bad genetics? Come to think of it, she was pretty sure the Mentor never married. Perhaps she was angry about her lackluster appearance and wanted revenge on all of the pretty, youthful elves she was surrounded by. But was she really so vain?
Trying her very best to not stutter Cyrstal made up an excuse. “I’m heading to the restroom” She said. Lady Hana frowned but said nothing, “Well hurry up then” Lady Ruby exclaimed “That is no excuse to miss your education”. Crystal nodded and hurried to the direction of the restroom., stopping at a corner. “I need a plan” She muttered, only problem was her head isn’t very good at making up plans.
Aileen made her way to the library, sheepishly handing the director her pardon. /What to do now?/ Maybe there was a reason Lady Darerca always made her study the textbooks she was given. Reasons other than just improving her Mesmerizing. And, as usual, the worst thoughts flooded through her brain. Was her Mentor trying to recruit her into the Neverseen?
I went back to class, and the rest of the day passed by fast when I got home I was hailed by an "unknown person" it turned out to be the descryer from earlier
she said "meet me in atlanis tonight near at my place" then disconnected. I decided to bring a melder just in case. I told my dad I would be seeing my friend who lived in Atlantis and then off I went to meet the descryer.
I got to her place and she was in a weird alley nearby, I went down to talk to her and she said
" Hello how are you"
"Why did you call me here" I said just now thinking of how dangerous it is
" Oh getting straight to the point" she said, then continued with " would you like to join the black swan"
I didn't know how to answer that so I decided to ask " how do you know I won't report you to the council" I said "I know your voice and your ability so I can find you even if that is a fake identity"
She replied with " I know you won't, anyway I'll give you some time to think about it, hail me when you decide"
" Okay" I said
While she was leaving she said " If you say no I'll have to kill you". I couldn't tell if she was joking or not.
Maisie lay in her bed that night, thinking about the events of the day. She chewed her bottom lip and decided to check on how her friends were doing. She wanted to reach out her mind to all of them, so she closed her eyes and let out a breath.
Hi there, you guys. It's Maisie. Can you hear me?
Silence. She knew she was straining herself–she'd never been a fantastic Telepath–but she tried again.
/Well, Lady Darerca met me wandering in the hallway on my way to study hall. She didn't threaten me, but she seemed pretty adamant about me showing up to class./ Aileen thought, hoping no one noticed her anxiety and worried face. /So it got me thinking about why she always pushed me to train so hard, and why she made me read so many huge books. I thought maybe there was some kind of subliminal messages hidden in them. What if she's trying to turn /me/ evil?/
Appearance: hazel eyes with golden flicks in them, waistline hair with woven flowers, gentle features
Abilities: Mesmer, Pyrokinetic (She is one of those rare elves with two abilities, if allowed. I understand both are powerful, but she can’t really control them.)
Personality: shy and mentally pained, but great with the elf skills like night vision and levitation. Nice but snappy, and cannot quite control her powers unless having one strict emotion. Failing in power classes unless having the one emotion.
Crest: golden heart with tulip speckled with diamonds
Groaning, Crystal threw her pen at the wall. It was rare for her to be this frustrated, even rarer to do it in study hall. She hadn’t been paying attention, instead she was trying to plot up a plan. Maybe she should meet up with others and hatch up a plan? “...That one was actually decent” She thought. Smiling to herself, she picked up her pen and started sketching.
Suddenly, the bell rang. It startled Aileen, but she remembered that she'd missed nearly half of the class. Of course it'd gone by quickly. /I haven't found anything out. And now I have to go to Mesmerizing./
Aileen seriously considered skipping. What if her Mentor was on to her? Why did she want her in class so badly? But she decided she'd just have to suck it up. If Maisie could deal with being Melded by Lady Hester, maybe Aileen could stand her own against Lady Darerca.
Aileen nervously stepped into Lady Darerca's classroom, surprised to see a small group of prodigies there. She counted seven. "What's going on?" /Are these members of the evil group?/ She wondered, trying to memorize their faces.
"These are my volunteers. You need to practice Mesmerizing many elves at once, so these kind young ladies and gentlemen volunteered to leave Lady Anya's class." Lady Darerca explained, her face unreadable as usual. /So they're just kids trying to get out of P.E./ "It's time your training gets bumped up a level. So far you've learned next to nothing. Set your books down."
(Um, can I make a unrelated comment? I just recently posted a role play on the role play board, it’s called Breakthrough. It’s the first role play I’ve ever made. And I would really appreciate if someone joined.)
"W-why?" Aileen said cautiously. "It's not like I have anyone to use my power on." She gave Lady Darerca a sheepish glance.
"Hey, can we like, not stand around all day?" One of the kids asked, not noticing Aileen's pallid face.
"It's always good to use your abilities to their fullest potential! Now, I want to give these kids a little run-down on what will happen." Lady Darerca made her way across the room, full of mysterious grace. "Contrary to popular belief, Mesmerizing is not the same as mind control. We control your bodies, not your consciousnesses. Are you taking notes, Aileen? You need to know this, too. You can get anyone to physically do whatever you want, but you can't make them think a certain way. Also, Aileen here is a fledgling Mesmer, so no complaining if she accidentally gets you hurt!"
I can check it out! But, since I am part of one roleplay here and two on the Survivors Wiki (I'm technically part of 2 here, but the Prodigy roleplay isn't very active.) So if I am not very active, it's because I'm doing other roleplays too and it's hard to keep track of so many characters.))
"The assignment is simple. Just get them to walk across the room." Lady Darerca said.
Aileen focused on the seven kids, frowning. Mesmerizing came naturally to her, almost instinctually, and it wasn't a difficult task to move them across the room. But it was so frightening. /I could easily make them jump out of a window./ She hated knowing that she could end the lives of seven people with such ease.
Paeris could see that Lola was shy. It was in the way she held herself. When Paeris talked it was loud and filled with sarcasm or some other emotion. Her facial expressions ran wild and her mouth even more so. What she thought- she said.
Sure sometimes she stopped herself from saying something stupid but that didn't mean she was any less restrained. A trait that probably came from having brothers- it made you confident in yourself- not because they were boys but because they pushed in ways that most girls never did.
So, Paeris went with her default setting around shy people- rambling.
"You're welcome! Have I seen you around before? I'm new to foxfire but I still know a lot of people because I see them around a lot and stuff. I'm new because I didn't want to go to school till now. I mean I don't really want to go to school now that much either- but it's not so bad- school that is. And I didn't come here because I didn't want to come to school I cam though because well I have a lot of brohers you see and there one that's younger than me right. Well not that much younger- he just stareted Foxfire- Bernie I mean. The brother I'm closest to is Milos but don't tell him I said that- he gets a big head." Paeris stpped her rambling for a second when she caught Lola's look, "Welllllll it's nice to meet you... have I seen you around?
Aileen's nerve got the better of her and she released all seven of them halfway across the room. One girl seemed to be so out of it that she fell to the ground. "I'm sorry!"
"No! Why did you stop?" Lady Darerca's voice boomed. "You were nearly there, and they didn't even bump into anyone."
"That's /so/ freaky!" Another girl chimed in, helping up the one who'd fallen over. "I don't get why anyone would want to manipulate another elf. It's creepy and /weird./"
"It's wonderful. An Empath like you wouldn't understand." Darerca said simply. "And important, too. Well... it seems Aileen isn't powerful enough yet to control a group of elves. If it's so scary, you can head back to P.E, Cliona."
