Shannon Messenger said that Book 8.5 was going to be written from multiple points of views. I have decided that I will also write this from multiple points of views. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
“Keeeeefe. Wake up!” Sophie shouted at the sleeping boy. The boy’s messy yet stylish blonde hair would quiver. Sophie put her elbows on Keefe’s cot and rested her chin on her hands. She stared intensely at Keefe’s face, memorizing every detail. The tiny freckles dotting his face. His beautiful long eyelashes. His wide ice blue eyes. The boy still hadn’t closed his eyes since the ‘incident’. Sophie found it vaguely unsettling to find herself staring at those ocean-like eyes, so deep that she was afraid she would drown in them if she stared for too long. She shook her head, clearing her brain of her thoughts. Every minute seemed like an eternity. Her mind drifted to a memory from earlier in the week.
Sophie had been sitting down by the base of the panake’s tree, her eyes wide with fear and wonder as she stared at the cache in Councillor Lying-Curl’s palm. The Councillor had sighed and gazed at the cache. She would open her mouth, about to mutter a life-changing word when a panting Dex would come into sight. The startled Councillor would drop the cache and then quickly pick it up and place it in a pocket on her dress. Sophie would sprint to the Strawberry-blonde boy. Dex would stop and collapse.
“Keefe.” Dex managed to wheeze. Sophie would look at Dex in horror and grab the boy by the arm and light leap to Foxfire. When they arrived in the Healing Center they saw Keefe thrashing and sweat beading his face. His eyes were wide and unusually light, his face was pale and gaunt. Sophie would feel tears slip down her cheeks as she watched.
Sophie straightened her back and yawned. She had decided to stay at the Healing Center since that day, and hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep for the whole week. Everyone tried to convince her to sleep and get rest, yet she couldn’t. Not with Keefe like this. She glanced at the door as it opened, and out came an ogre with dark purple hair and nails. Ro would stride and sit down on a stool next to Keefe.
“Lord HunkyHair isn’t awake yet? Geeze, he better be ready for me to tackle him for sleeping so long. This school is just plain boring now, even smashing the glittery statues don’t amuse me as much.” Ro commented as she played with her shoulder-length hair. Sophie nodded weakly, she had to agree that things weren’t the same without Keefe. “Hey! Lord HunkyHair! I’m going to tell your little girl your secret if you don’t wake up!” Keefe would turn away from Ro to face Sophie. Ro gasped and looked insulted. “You did not just do that! I’m going to tell your girl your secret then!” Keefe said nothing. Ro slapped his face, leaving a red mark on his cheek. He snorted. Sophie held back the urge to burst into laughing.
"Wait... secret?" Sophie asked, her eyes wide. Ro nodded and shrugged. "Yea, but I think Lord FukyHair needs to tell you it." Ro replied. Ro slapped his face a few more times before finally giving up. They sat there in silence before Ro got impatient and called for Elwin. Elwin rushed in, the ends of his hair singed slightly and his spectacles covered in ash.
“What? Did something happen!?” Elwin asked, his voice frantic. Ro shook her head and pointed at Keefe accusingly.
“When will he wake up?” Elwin would shrug. “Also shouldn't this one,” Ro pointed at Sophie, “be getting some sleep? It’s like midnight.” Sophie gasped and looked out a window and saw that it was, in fact, midnight. Elwin nodded and put his hands on his hips.
“Good question Sophie. Care to answer?” Sophie sighed.
“Fine, how about this, I will sleep for two hours if you make sure I’m the first one you tell about Keefe waking up.” Elwin nodded and grinned. He wiped some ash off his spectacles and walked away. Sophie layed down on a cot next to Keefe (Duh-Bad Guy starts playing* I just had to) and stared at Keefe. His face was unmoving, except for the tiny bit of drool coming from his mouth. If his eyes were closed, Sophie would have thought he was peacefully sleeping. But he wasn’t. He was transforming right this second into something new, something possibly horrific. Sophie would shudder and shake the thought away. Ro would watch from a distance, silent. Sophie felt sleep overtake her and she would drift into a horror show of Nightmares.
Fitz’s POV (I may portray him in a rude way just in advance)
Fitz slammed his bedroom door. He growled and sat down on his bed, digging his fingers into his bed sheets. He had just watched his crush sit and stare at his best friend like he was her boyfriend. It made Fitz want to vomit. He could never imagine Sophie without him. They were Cognates after all! (bUt wE’rE cOnGaTeS) How could they not end up together? All of these thoughts raced through his mind. He put a pause button on the thinking. He decided it was time to talk to the one and only love expert, Biana, his sister. He hated it but he begrudgingly made his way to his sister’s room and knocked. Biana could be heard from the inside, walking over to get the door. She smiled as she saw her brother with a frown on his face.
“This must be about Sophie!” Biana squealed immediately. Fitz stared at his sister with his jaw dropped. How did she know? Fitz shrugged and closed his mouth.
“Maybe just announce it to the world, ok?” Fitz replied. Biana rolled her eyes and beckon Fitz in. Her room was basically any girl’s dream room. With beautiful not-too-bright pink walls and pure white floors with a lush bed with pink bed sheets in the center. Fitz was impressed at how clean the room was, for his room looked like a pigsty. Biana sat down on her bed and grinned at Fitz.
“Sooo…. what happened?” Biana would ask, tilting her head towards Fitz’s. Fitz took a deep breath.
“IneedadviceonhowtohaveSophiebecomemygirlfriend.” Fitz replied. Biana would nod and wiggle her eyebrows.
“I know a few tips.” (I shall stop there because I have no advice on that stuff)
