  • Honestly I don't know what Shannon is doing with the whole "8.5" thing. I can just imagine in Algebra: "Are books discreet or continuous domain?" "Continuous." "No, you can't have half a book!" "Tell that to Shannon Messenger."

So I'm going to try Unlocked. I'll do Sophie and Keefe's perspectives. Read on if you care!

    Chapter 1: Sophie

      "He's still asleep."

Elwin had said he was only going to let in one visitor at a time, and Sophie had been so determined, he'd let her in first. She watched his chest go up and down. He'd been asleep for too long, but Sophie was reassured that the transformation wasn't physical, because he still looked like the same old Keefe. Messy hair, trademark smirk. Sophie made a mental note to let Keefe know he smirks in a coma.

      "What are you laughing about?"

Sophie stopped laughing. Keefe could die in this transformation - this was serious. "Just... look at his face."

Elwin smiled. "I know, right? It gives me hope that Keefe is still in there, watching us through those blank eyes."

It was honestly kind of creepy. Keefe's eyes had been open, occasionally blinking. Elwin said he didn't know what condition Keefe was in, or if he could see or hear us. Keefe blinked, but didn't say a word. It was like he was staring off into space, thinking about something with a smirk on his face. Sophie just wanted him to wake up.

"Are you okay?" Elwin asked, his tone concerned. Sophie shook her head.

"No... I'm really not. I want Keefe to be awake!"

"Umm... Sophie!" Biana called tentatively from the outside of the room. "I don't wnat to cut you short, but... some of us want to see Keefe, and you're supposed to go see someone."

"Oh. Right." As Sophie unenthusiastically opened the door and walked out, she imagined Keefe thinking about his Great Gulon Incident and laughing to himself.

"Let's get this over with," Sophie said, unconcerned about being rude. Hadn't it been rude of Oralie to keep a secret about her life?

She shook her head sadly. "I was sure I knew the password to the cache. I don't know why it didn't work."

"Right. You thought it was Lumenaria. And it wasn't."

Oralie shrugged. "That's what they told us it was, and it makes sense. So... I don't know why it's not working."

"Maybe they lied," Sophie suggested bitterly.

Oralie opened her mouth to say something, but Sopie held her hand up. "Don't. Just don't, okay? It doesn't feel good to not know, does it?"

Oralie was a councillor, so she probably could have gotten Sophie in big trouble for that, but she just smiled sadly. "It puts me in danger."

"It puts your position in danger!" Sophie exclaimed, tears beginning to run down her cheeks. "You always chose the Council over love, even with Kenric. And now Kenric is dead and your daughter hates you! Is that what you always wanted?"

Oralie looked hurt, but not angry. "You don't really hate me, do you?"

Sophie was going to say "yes," but something made her stop. "You... you were always my favorite councillor, Oralie. And..." Sophe hated acting like this to a councillor, but it was the truth. "And now I like Alina better."

Oralie must have sensed that she meant it in her emotions, because she didn't object. Sophie left with tears on her cheeks, and she avoided all signs of life on her way home.

      Chapter 2 Part 1

"You listened to Vertina, didn't you."

It wasn't a question. It was a solid statement from Biana. Fitz... was just staring at her.

"Do you have something to say?" Sophie snapped. Then she softened. "Sorry. That was... kind of harsh. It's just Keefe and..." Sophie felt tears stinging in her eyes. Her mood swang so easily... what was her problem?

"Hey, I understand," Fitz said reassuringly. Like a very good friend. Sophie smiled.

         "Thanks."

"I know it's hard for you," Biana said caringly. "Even more so than the rest of us. You know, because he's so... special to you."

Sophie held up her hands in a back off guesture. "Okay, we were fine until you said that." Fitz laughed as Sophie blushed and kept talking. "Keefe is just a friend, just like Dex, and... Fitz, and you, Biana." Sophie realized she was rambling, which would just make Biana go all princess Barbie doll on her. But Biana just laughed.

"Keep telling yourself that when we see him today," Biana giggled. "I'm sure he'll have a lot to say."

         Sophie tilted her head. "What?"

"You didn't know?" Fitz asked, flustered. "As of this morning, Keefe is awake!"

    • Part 2

"He wants to see Sophie first," Elwin said, poking  his head out the door. "I mean, he said 'Foster,' but you get the idea."

Sophie nodded numbly and walked into the room. Keefe was sitting on the bed, Keefish as ever. "Hey," he said. "Miss me?"

Sophie responded by tackling him with a hug. "Is that a question? You were asleep for a month!"

Keefe turned to Elwin, wearing his rare serious face. Elwin cringed. "We... um... didn't tell him that yet," Elwin admitted.

"You can't trust a guy with the information that people have been waiting for him to wake up for a month?!"

"Hey," Sophie said, redirecting Keefe, "it's alright. He does it to me, too."

Keefe nodded, and then scanned the room, as if looking for a change of topic. Then his eyes landed back on Sophie and he smirked. "Biana gave you a makeover, didn't she?"

Sophie blushed. "Vertina, actually. How did you know?"

"Because you were even more hot than the last time I saw you, and trust me, you were plenty hot a month ago."

         "Don't do that, Keefe."

"What? I thought you were a fan of the facts," Keefe defended, his tone silly. "Would you rather I spoke in riddles, like the Black Swan?"

         "No!" Sophie exclaimed.

"Foster was a knock-out, the Fitzer stared a lot, wait a month later, and now she's really hot!"

         "Please no."

Keefe smirked. "That's your way of saying you love it. Now let the rest of them in. I think I  know what happened in the transformation." His tone was suddenly serious. "It could put us all in danger."

That's the end of Chapter 2!

...soon. The thing is, I'm working really hard on a book I have for publishing. I finished my old project novel and am now writing another one that currently has 10 chapters, but will be much longer when I publish. Why? Because my last book was fantasy, but my gift isn't as much fantasy as it is realistic fiction with some magic realism... So, while I sometimes work on chapters for this, but mostly I'm working on a published book for y'all. You guys are my standard fanbase for when I publish so I'm working! I love all of you!

    • Chapter 3 (Keefe)

Keefe had already expected a wide-eyed, disbelieving reaction.

What he hadn't expected was for Fitz to walk out of the room.

"Does anybody know what that was about?" Biana asked after a short silence.

Keefe shrugged. "Maybe he's worried that now that I'm literally getting hotter by the minute -"

"If this is another joke about me," Foster interrupted, "keep it to yourself."

"I mean, it's true," Keefe pointed out. "Just say it out loud, it made it real for me. Yeah. I'm a pyrokinetic. That's Mommy's grand plan for me."

"Thanks for not calling it your legacy," Linh whispered.

Keefe laughed bitterly. "My legacy? No. It's her legacy. A dark legacy of blood and murder. Why would I want to be a part of it?"

Sophie looked at him with adorably sweet eyes. "You know, if you ever need to talk -"

"I am talking," Keefe snapped. Then he softened. "But Foster... thanks for the offer. I'll probably take you up on it."

Biana laughed. "I'm here too. In fact, I think we all are."

Keefe laughed. "Thanks. I'm glad you're all here for me." Then he looked over at the door. "Well, almost all of you."

Sophie shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he -"

"- is worried that now that I'm literally getting hotter, Foster  will -"

"Keefe!" Sophie soudned exasperated, but her eyes were smiling. "Stop it! I hate when you joke about that stuff."

Keefe shrugged. "We all know it's the truth."

"I was going to say he's scared," Sophia said. "I mean, you're right. It's dangerous for us all."

Keefe sighed. "I don't want to be dangerous. It makes me more like my mom."

"You're nothing like your mom," Biana assured him. That was what gave him the courage to say the rest:

"I'm also catching up with Foster. I'm now an Empath, Pyrokinetic, Psionipath, Shade, and Telepath."

    • Chapter 4: Sophie

Once again, the room was silent.

Then Biana said, "Say what now?"

"That's five," Keefe said with a smirk. "Watch out, Foster!"

Sophie sighed. "It's kind of annoying, honestly," she admitted. "Having five abilities is not all it's built up to be."

           "Why?"

"Our talents are artificial," Sophie explained. She always felt like it was cheating for me to have abilities because somebody played with her DNA. "Welcome to the genetically modified club."

Keefe clapped his hands. "Yay! A special club for the two of us!" Then he slumped. "I couldn't be modified by the good guys? It had to be my mom?"

Sophie put her hand on his shoulder. "Hey. Just because your mom tries to control you doesn't mean she can." It didn't appear to make him feel better at all.

"But she has controlled me. There's nothing more controlling than changing someone's DNA," Keefe argued. "Come on!"

"It seems like that," Sophie admitted. "But a wise young man once told me that I wasn't a machine. I made my own decisions. And I think he should give you the same advice."

Keefe smirked. "Guys, Foster just agknowledged that I'm a genius!"

Sophie sighed. "Sometimes," she relented. "Now come on. We need to-"

"-keep Keefe in bed," Elwin interrupted, rushing over with more medicine. Keefe groaned.

"Please, I don't need more ooey gooey stuff," he complained.

"Fine. Just drink this first," Elwin said, holding up a bottle with some sparkly liquid.

No sooner did the bottle reach his lips than he collapsed back onto the bed. Elwin brushed his hands off. "Works with Sophie, too."

"That's cruel," Sophie said with a giggle. "But why would you knock him out again? He was just out. For a month!"

"Percisely," Elwin agreed. "I don't want him to jump back into activity. This is what his body is used to at the moment. We can't just break this routine."

Sophie looked down at Keefe. At least his eyes were closed, and he looked like he wasn't watching her. He was on his way to being back to normal.

    • I don't know, BAM is great.

Biana cares about him and understands him like no one else does (reminds me of SoKeefe). Tam is a little bit of a "I'm so stupid, no one could like me" kind of guy and he just needs someone to love him (like Biana).

      -SoKeefe4life

P.S. I ship Dina as well.

    • I'm hardcore Tiana, and I sort of get where you're coming from. I could write a lot about why I ship it.

They understand each other. Like Sokeefe4life said.

They balance each other out, Tam being the dark, self-conscious kind of guy, when Biana is bright and cheerful. She helps him out when he's feeling down.

yeah, i think i might be leaning toward tiana.

the thing is that when people try to convince me to ship dexiana, I ask them why? their answer always is that Dex faced the burden of having parents that were a bad match and he had triplets as his younger siblings. They say that Dex deserves someone who loves him and appreciates him.

Dexiana shippers forget to recognize on thing. Tam faced a hard life as well. His parents hated him and his sister because they were twins. He might have been teased for being the twin of the Girl of Many Floods. He had a chance to have a better life but he decided to go to Exillium with his sister for many years. After that, his parents still hate him.

    • I ship Dexiana because Biana needs a light and welcoming person. I think Tam and Marella would understand each other because people just feel so wary of them because of their abilities. I'll post another chapter soon but feel free to discuss ships until then!
