  • Hey - random fact: The distinction between "doves" and "pigeons" in English is not consistent, and does not exist in most other languages. In contrast, in scientific and ornithological practice, "dove" tends to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied. Historically, the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the terms. The bird most commonly referred to as just "pigeon" is the domestic pigeon, which is common in many cities as the feral pigeon. XD

    • Hey! Huh... doves and pigeons are the same species? I'm going to look this up... yep, they're both part of the Columbidae family, which consists of about 300 species of birds (different variants of doves/pigeons). Wait a sec... people used "carrier doves" to send messages?? Huh... XD

    • I know – I was like, wait, what? Aah, just me cruising the internet looking for weird facts to annoy you. :) Did you know two pigeons almost distracted from the discovery of evidence of the Big Bang? Hehe, scientists in New Jersey heard hissing noises from their antenna that would later prove to be signals from the Big Bang. But when they first heard the sound, they were sure it was the poop of two pigeons. I just love that so much.

    • Your "weird" facts could never annoy me. :) Pooping pigeons seriously almost distracted from the discovery of evidence of the Big Bang? That's insane. Also, pigeons can understand space and time, have been taught to be art snobs, and can differentiate between written words. I love that... especially the Big Bang ones and the art snob ones...

    • Hehe. “Art snobs”? That’s adorable xd. Ok, I may sound extremely stupid, but I never knew that pigeons were domestic. I always envisioned all pigeons to be these dirty things in the streets of New York. Pigeons are actually very clean animals and there is very little evidence to suggest that they are significant transmitters of disease. I think I may have just found my new favorite animals.

    • Hehe. You don't sound stupid, because I didn't know they were domestic, either. I've only ever seen them outside in cities - they're cute, but...people...keep...them...as...pets! Who knew?

    • I was in Florida a few years ago, and this really deformed (like, really deformed. It had one eye, his wings were torn... it was bad :( ) pigeon came up to me. I tried to shoo it away, but it wouldn’t leave until I gave it a piece of my crust. xd

    • Awww...poor pigeon. Do you think it got injured, or was it born deformed? awww...that's really sweet of you to give it your crust. was this in a park or something? I always hide my food in public if there are birds there, though I always feel guilty and greedy about doing it XD

    • Probably injured. My best guess is that it got into a fight. It just looked so small and helpless... :( Yeah, this was at a park near a pizza restaurant. Exactly, birds are living things too! :(

    • That's so sad... poor birdie. I hate seeing injured animals :( They're living things and it's so cruel when people look down on them or try to hurt them when shooing them away. Sadness :(

    • Yes, poor birdie indeed. Do you know (you probably do, but) about Australia? So many people and innocent animals are dying. Our world is so messed up... :/

    • Yes... it's heartbreaking. Over a billion animals have died, 27 people have died, and so many people have had to leave their homes and watch them burn away. Our world truly is terrible... the worst thing is that some people work their hardest to hide what's actually happening and by the time they stop, it'll be too late :/

    • One. Billion. Like, what? Those poor poor koalas and kangaroos and the other animals that stuffered. And I feel so bad because I can't really do anything besides spread awareness, which most people just ignore...

        Loading editor
    • It's insane. I looked it up and saw a picture of vets trying to save a dying koala... and then I cried. Poor poor poor everyone. And the worst thing is that people like us who actually care can't do anything physical, just spread awareness and you're right, a lot of people ignore that... :(

    • Now I'm curious and sad :( Baby koalas...Everything about this makes me want to go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. :(

    • Awww :(((((((((((( poor baby koalas... welp, I won't look at you weird. *give friend virtual tissues and then starts crying because tissues come in so much packaging which is also bad for the environment and now I'm sad*
