Dex checked the clock on the wall as Sir Astin started passing out the quizzes they would be taking today. Class was starting precisely three minutes early. Normally, someone would just shrug it off. But not Dex Diznee. While it seemed like he was a normal elf with an erratic schedule, it was truly the opposite. Everything he did was done at a specific time.
Dex would wake up at exactly 7:00 am each school morning. He would solve his hygenic needs by 7:15 am. Dex would eat breakfast at 7:20 am, and finish at 7:30 am. He would check and make sure everything was accounted for before leaving for Foxfire at 7:35 am, arriving at 8:00 am. School would start at 8:05 am. When school concluded, he would go home and do his homework at set intervals from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. He would then study for, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Dex would then eat dinner at 8:35 pm and finish eating by 8:45 pm. He would then sleep at 9:45 pm after allowing himself an hour of free time to do whatever he wanted.
And that was how it had always been, until he entered Foxfire. School started at random times, ranging anywhere from 8:00 am to 8:27 am. It was unpredictable, and Dex Diznee did not like unpredictability. Classes didn’t have a set schedule and agenda like his former school did, activities randomly starting and stopping when teachers felt like it. His classmates, when studying, would hop from one subject to another, randomly going back and forth, no set intervals or dedicated amounts of time for each class.
Dex found this all incredibly irrational, erratic, and frustrating, but he kept silent. He did his best to keep to his schedule. He tried, he really did. But his efforts were fruitless. Foxfire simply didn’t agree with his schedule.
So when Sir Astin instructed them to start the quiz, and class wasn’t supposed to start until one minute later, Dex merely sat and stared at the paper. His classmates gave him questioning looks, but he sat there for the entire sixty seconds before writing his name and beginning the quiz. It was 8:30 am now, so he would have to complete the quiz by 8:40 am if he wanted to complete the after-quiz work assigned all during the class period.
Dex still had four questions left when he realized it was 8:37 am. He rushedly answered the questions to the best of his ability. 8:39 am. Dex looked over his entire quiz. 8:40 am. Dex turned the quiz in. His other classmates were barely done with the first two or three questions on the quiz.
Dex would keep to his schedule like clockwork, and nothing would stop him from doing so.
