Marella Redek was happy.
The petite six-year-old elf was enjoying herself at her birthday party. Her Mommy An day Daddy had gotten lots and lots of elves to come and celebrate it, just for her! She didn’t get to go with her and the grown-ups, because she was ‘too little.’ Hmph.
Marella was still very happy, though. She was sitting in her room, eating a really big slice of Mallowmelt, surrounded by a pile of presents. Mommy said she could open them when she wanted too, but Marella wanted to do it with Mommy and Daddy. The blonde elf formed another bite of Mallowmelt in her mouth. Yum.
The little elf sat there and ate her cake, waiting for her friends to come and play with her. Right now, they were preparing for the party, and they took a long time to prepare. At least, that’s what her Mommy said.
Finally, her friends came! There was Stina, and Bella, and Millicent! All of them looked really pretty, and they looked happy to see her! The three girls shoved presents in Marella’s arms, and excitedly asked her to open them. Marella politely told them that she wanted to wait for Mommy and Daddy. Stina pouted for a little while, but she was okay after a few minutes.
An hour passed, and Marella decided that she wanted to open her presents. She hobbled out of the room, a little bloated from so much Mallowmelt. She weaved through the legs of the grown-ups, and one of them laughed and handed her a pretty glass butterfly. Marella stopped to admire it. It was a pretty aqua color, and it was very nice.
Marella stopped looking at the butterfly and continued looking for her Mommy and Daddy, but she was more careful, cradling the glass butterfly in her hands gently. Finally, she saw her Mommy, standing on the balcony with a glass of some kind of adult juice in her hand.
Mommy was acted very weird. She was giggling and stumbling, her words jumbling up into a really big mess. Mommy stumbled backwards, still laughing, and suddenly, she tripped and fell!
“Mommy! Mommy!” Marella cried, running over to the balcony and looking over it.
Mommy looked surprised and scared and hurt. Mommy was hurt, and that was not good.
The butterfly tumbled from her hands and landed on the ground, pretty aqua-colored shattered glass spreading all around Mommy.
