Sophie's eyes blurred as she looked from the screen to the matchmakers. Stifling a sob, she turned and ran. She probably looked ridiculous, like a reverse Cinderella. Her stupid, perfect dress ripped as she fled. Her tears were gone. But then she looked at the color. And the sobs came back, full force. What would Fitz think? It was just a stupid dream. She told herself, willing it to be true. But..........he was the perfect Vacker boy. Cute, popular, powerful......he was everything she wasn't. And couldn't be. He was from the perfect legacy family. And she was the Moonlark. Destined to be something.......else. Fresh tears fell as she raced toward the lobby. All she needed was to find Grady and Edaline. They stood up when they saw her approaching. Edaline pulled her into a hug.
Sophie was in her bedroom at Havenfield when Edaline knocked softly on the door. "Sophie honey? You have a visitor." Edaline stepped aside and Mr. Forkle stepped into the room. "Tiergan is here too."Edaline left and closed the door.
"I'm so sorry,"he whispered, not meeting her eyes.
"Sorry for what?" she asked.
"For..........for doing this to you. We thought it would be good for you, and our world, seeeing you go against tradition. But now, seeing how it has affected you, I'm not so sure."
"You...made me unmatchable"Sophie said. He nodded, looking away.
"How could you do this?" She screamed."Don't you care about me at all? Was my life not hard enough already?"
The door opened. "Did you know about this too? I hate you!" Sophie yelled, expecting it to be Tiergan. Instead, it was.....Keefe? And he looked heartbroken. Keefe turned and ran. "Keefe.......no!"Sophie called, but he was already gone.
Sophie couldn't stop replaying the hurt look she'd seen in Keefe's eyes. She had tried hailing him ten times but he hadn't answered. She was about to leap to his house when her Imparter buzzed. She dove across the room, hoping it was Keefe, but instead it was Fitz.
"Hey!" she said, trying to sound cheery but failing miserably.
"What is wrong with you?!"He shouted.
Sophie gasped. "Wh..what are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about! How could you go to a Forbidden City without us?"
"I didn't mean-wait, what?" Sophie said. "I didn't go to a Forbidden City."
"Stina told us you did." Firz said uncomfortably.
"And you believed HER?" Sophie said.
Fitz wouldn't meet her eyes. "I'm sorry."
"Fi-itz! Come o-on!" Biana yelled in the background.
"Coming!" He yelled back. "Listen, I've got to go."
Sophie stood under the Leapmaster, feeling her confidence drain away. "Candleshade!" She called, wishing her voice didn't sound so wobbly.
She knocked on the heavy, ominous metal door. She heard footsteps and breathed a sigh of relief. But as soon as the door opened she wished it was someone else, anyone else, but her wish didn't come true. "Hello, Sophie." Lord Cassius said. But that wasn't the worst part. "Sophie, darling. " a voice trilled. "Did you miss me?" And Sophie knew what was going to happen before it did, and she was ready when Ruy stepped forward. But he was too fast. Lady Gisela smirked at Sophie. "You shouldn't have come, Sophie. But I'm very glad you did." Then everything went black.
"Don't move, Sophie." a voice commanded, dragging Sophie out of dreams, nightmares really, and into reality. Sophie ripped her eyes open, wincing at the stabbing pain as her eyes cried in protest of the sudden bright light. "What do you want?" she asked, hearing the wobble in her voice and hating herself for it. Lady Gisela sighed. "One of my problems with you, Sophie, is that you always assume everything is about you. "
"If it's not, why did you kidnap me?" Sophie asked, her voice stronger.
"Because of my son."
"W-what about him?"
Lady Gisela sighed. "Keefe has resisted too long. Either way, whichever he chooses, we need you as bait."
Sophie's mind whirred with a thousand possibilities, each more horrific than the last. "What are you going to do to him?"
Lady Gisela didn't answer. Just then, Sophie saw a glint of silver in the air. As a person came into view behimd Keefe's mom, Sophie had to bite back a scream. It was.....
And she looked.....fierce.
Della and Wraith appeared behind her. Wraith stepped forward so he was directly in front of Lady Gisela, who looked uncharacteristically surprised.
Then the door burst open, and Fitz, Keefe, and Linh came in. Fitz scanned the room, Keefe rushed straight to Sophie, and Linh murmured something to Biana. Biana squeezed her hand and shouted, "Tam!"
Wait... I definitely don't have Fitz up that high on my "favorite character" list but even I don't think he is that much of an idiot to believe Stina (but now much higher) but I DO think he would react like he did GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! PLS WRITE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!
True but who can blame her for the outburst? The Black Swan did manipulate her love life along with giving her abilities but still "Gave her a choice" I mean I would feel pretty obligated to try to save the world. Any way, I really do think the changing her future love life is pushing it a bit far but still something the Black Swan would do. (Thanks for listening to my pointless rant)
