  • Okay y'all. I don't know about you but I really want a KOTLC movie. The only way for that to happen is for a company to pick it up and do it. There is nothing Shannon can do. So we have to try and get it. It may not work but we have to try. Here's my idea. I've gotten the emails for the right support staff at Disney Movies and Universal Movies. It;s going to take all of us and we probably won't get feeback right away. But if EVERYONE on this wiki and all your friends to email both of these email once a day they have to do something. They may say no but we still have to keep doing it. Not all of y'all are going to agree with me and I get that but I'm so tired of waiting. Come on y'all! At least give it a try!

    • On Shannon’s blog, she once had addressed the idea of a movie. I think she only said it for casting reasons, but I think she knows. I just hope that if there’s a movie, it won’t be as bad as the pjo ones.

    • ^I agree.

also the movies won’t b as good as the books, they’d leave out a lot of scenes, usually the good ones. (Unless it was animated. But they’d still leave out a lot)

    • I think Universal over Disney. I'm afraid Disney will make kotlc into a love story...

        Loading editor
    • Isn’t it though?

        Loading editor
    • ^Well kinda.... the love triangle has kind of taken dominance over the series, which I'm not hugely excited about...but I think what she's saying is that if Disney gets rights to it, most of the story will be romantic.

But I think that making a movie of this right now has a few flaws (please don't take offense):

      1. It's not popular enough. This is the saddest and biggest issue--not enough people would recognize the movie and buy it, so if it did become a movie, they would have a low budget and the much-needed CGI and special effects would be cheap, which brings me to my next point....

      2. There are too many things that can't really be expressed visually. Mind readings and telepathy take a huge role in the series, and that would be really hard to recreate visually, especially with a low budget.

      3. The series isn't over yet.  Usually in movies (like HP for instance) they draw parallels and add foreshadowing based off of the later books, in the earlier movies.  Especially since KOTLC isn't over, and won't be for at least 3 years, it wouldn't work to make a movie now.

      4. The characters.  If they were going to make a movie out of this, they would need good actors--especially for Keefe, Tam, and Sophie.  The last thing we would want is for Sophie's movie counterpart to have blue eyes and brown hair *cough cough* PERCY JACKSON *cough cough*.  WHAT IF KEEFE WASN'T PORTRAYED RIGHT?   What if Keefe wasn't likeable in the series, and Tam wasn't snarky, and Linh wasn't a cinnamon roll?  WHAT IF SOPHIE WASN'T OBLIVIOUS ROMANTICALLY IN THE SERIES?  Too many things could go wrong, and the last thing KOTLC needs is a PJO-class movie fail.

Basically, if they were able to make an accurate, well-funded, interesting movie, I'd be sold.  But right now, the possibility for that is looking pretty bleak.

        Loading editor
    • ^Yes! I totally agree! With a book series that is (sadly) as unpopular as Keeper, if they were to make a movie, it would be dramatically underfunded, casting would probably be wreck, and everything would just be terrible. It would be best for them to wait until the series has progressed further and become more popular and well-known. Then, they'll be more eager to produce a movie that has most, if not all, of the right elements and parts.

        Loading editor
    • I agree. KotLC isn't popular enough yet. There are a lot of fans, but not quite enough to make it a movie. If we get more people reading KotLC, we can get a movie. And the telepathy really wouldn't work well. They'd have the weird echoey voice in their heads and it would be sooooo cringey. And we definitely don't want it to turn out like Percy Jackson or Eragon (Eragon is a great, but not very popular series. It had so much potential as a movie, but when they filmed it, they did such a bad job. It was done on a low budget and they wasted the little money they did have on unnecessary special effects. It's impossible to tell if the actors were good because you literally cannot see their faces or hear their voices. One of my friends watched the movie and then refused to read the books because the movie was so awful.) If KotLC was made into a movie, we would want Shannon Messenger to keep control over casting choices and script writing. The authors of Harry Potter and the Hunger Games did that and those movies were awesome. For the Hunger Games, the author was actually present to give feedback during filming.

        Loading editor
    • Shannon Messenger actually started her career in the movie industry, so hopefully she could ensure that the movies were good.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah. While KOTLC is awesomely epic, (or is it epically awesome?) it doesn't have enough fans. And with low amount of fans comes a low budget. And with a low budget, comes yeah, I'm pretty sure you guys get it.

BUT if it ever does become a movie/TV show, I'd like to see it animated. That way, special effects (like mind reading, abilities, etc.) would be much more cooler to see.

        Loading editor

    • The thing is y'all..... There is always going to be the risk of the casting being messed up or the wrong company picking it up. We have no control who picks it up **to an extent. And it is going to take a while for someone to pick it up which is why we need to start NOW. If we wait until all the books are out it could be TEN years before a movie is made. It will take them a while for them to notice us. THEN they have to start casting and production and that's ALL before filming. My point is... We need to start pressuring them to start considering it. And y'all talk about them adding in foreshadowing like it needs to happen BUT then you start to complain about how they switch things up? I get what you are trying to say but there are already 7 books in the series by the time they start production and stuff there will probably be 9. That is a good start for foreshadowing. This is going to be a long slow process but all i know is that we have to try. if you really don't want a movie that's up to you and I respect that. BUT whoever is with me... let's do this.

    • Adding on to what i just said^^^^^^

Percy Jackson and HP weren't nearly as well known and recognized until the movies came out. That's to say... you know KOTLC is pretty popular. I mean look at this wiki. THere are tons of users. There are also tons of readers that arent on here. Not to mention how it's ranked on the B&N bestseller lists. It isn't as popular as we'd like but that is OUR job to fix. Start sreading the word about it to your friends and family. Get them to read it. That is stilll part of our long process. If you look to my original post I mentioned that. This isn't just about emailing those companies. It's about spreading the word about keeper. It is OUR job to help grow this thing. Let's do it right!!!! <3

    • Also ^^^

you think it's gonna be hard to recreate the magic and fiction but literally look at HP... they recreated that magic pretty well. Anyway, that's NOT our job. That is the movie producers job. THey have plenty of tricks up their sleeve. We just need them to get there. AND to get a bigger fanbasae. We already have a pretty good size one BUT you are right... it's gotta get bigger

    • The telepathy would just ruin the movie, unfortunately. Have you ever watched a movie in which thoughts are doing the echoey thing? It's the most cringey thing ever. The only movie that handled it well was Lord of the Rings, and that was only because it was an elf speaking. I know that the Keeper crew are elves, but they seem more like normal teenagers most of the time.

        Loading editor
    • I think we're all judging a movie that hasn't even been made yet. I mean who knows how they will portray it. And that's only if they make it. Why are some concentrating on how they wouldn't do a good job on the movie when you could be positive.  I don't know about y'all but I'd rather have a movie with a few not as good scenes than no movie at all. Sorry for your time.

    • Just a comment about the Percy Jackson and TV series things: Percy Jackson books are like half the size of KotLC books. This could cause it to be a TV series. The first Percy Jackson is about 400 pages long, and the first KotLC (the shortest) is 512 pages. This increases dramatically throughout the series, with Flashback (the longest) breaching 800 pages. If we KotLC fans lobby hard enough for a screen adaptation of the series and manage to hook somewhere like Disney, Universal, or Netflix, the sheer length of these books might drive them to go for a TV series instead of a movie. This, of course, is all discounting budget for CGI, animation, and the telepathy present throughout the series. Anyway, that’s my logic.

I know how much WE all love these but the truth is (the very very sad truth) that it’s just not popular enough to get a steady budget and without a steady budget we get crummy special-effects and with crummy special-effects you would get really bad things. • Okay, so I don't know how many times this has been said, but I do really want a KOTLC movie. I just really want to see how Hollywood percieves the world we all love, and how they go about making the movie. I also want to see what they cut and/or add to the movie that differs from the books. I just hope they somewhat stick to the character descriptions, and don't give Fitz, like, blonde hair and purple eyes or something silly like that. (This has happened to me before, where I got super excited about a character, and they completely ruined him/her by not even following the book.) Another thing is their abilties. I'm interested to see how they show them and what they do to embellish their existance. If they do make a KOTLC movie, you should expect me to create my own version of the script, which I will either post here or have it posted on my acount which will enable you to find me and read it.

If a movie doesn't work, I'm pushing for a tv series. Animated or real life doesn't really matter in my opinion. (I'm imagining an animated Fitz or Keefe right now, and I'm seriously dying. Imagine the scene in Neverseen and Flashback where both boys are shirtless. honestly, just that image makes me want to see them in real life.) But if they put too much embellishment on Sophitz or Sokeefe, I will either squeal or scream. (Darn you Sophitz and Sokeefe fanfictions that make me undecisive. [I don't care if that's spelled wrong. It's 2 in the freaking morning, and my mom is forcing me to stay awake to keep her awake on this three day drive of murder.])

Weird fun fact about me - when I think KOTLC, I think it like cot - lick. Not K-O-T-L-C, but cot - lick. Sorry for my sleep - depreived brain.

    • Also, spread the word!!!!

        Loading editor
    • At this point, nothing short of the greatest miracle in human history will get us a KOTLC movie franchise that is faithful to the movie and well-written and acted.

Someone may have already said this, but...there are only two books left in the series, most likely.  It's a basically unknown series - sure, most people that read it become die-hard fans, but the other 99% of society has no idea about it.  If a trailer came out for KOTLC, literally everyone would be asking themselves "wat b dis".  It would make absolutely NO money at the box office.  The creators of the movie would be anticipating this, and they would make it with a SUPER low budget.

Basically, what would need to happen is:

      1. KOTLC would become INSANELY popular in the next two years - at least 1000% increase

      2. Some tiny company that makes terrible movies and doesn't have anything else to do decides to take a HUGE chance (and no, Disney and Universal would undoubtedly refuse, unless the last few books became #1 national bestsellers, and even then it's unlikely for either to accept)

      3. They decide, even though most people haven't heard of the series, to put a lot of money into the movie, making it with good actors, and a good storyline.

      4. A LOT of luck is involved.

MAYBE then the movie might make a decent amount of money.  But for it to do well, it would most likely need to be a live-action, most likely a soft PG-13 rated movie - it would need to be PG-13 to do well at the box office - and it would just be loosely based off the series.  It wouldn't be a faithful adaptation, but the ideas would loosely be the same, because let's face it, the first book wasn't written wonderfully.

A lot of people think it would be best as an animated TV show, but honestly, a TV show would have MUCH more potential to be terrible.

        Loading editor
    • You have good arguments but I will have to say... People say all the time the KOTLC is relatively unknown. BUT unknown series don't make it on the bestseller list

        Loading editor
    • Actually, you might be surprised.  Since there are sooooo manyyyyyyyy books being published constantly, it takes something special to be recognized enough to be movie material.  All KOTLC needed is for any one book to sell really good for one day, and get to the #50 spot or so, and the series is now a bestselling series.  It's not very difficult.

        Loading editor
    • @EthanDaCyrokinetic KOTLC has been on USA today, NYC, and B&N Bestsellers. I'd say that's something special. And they obviously have sold really good or they wouldn't be on those lists.

    • I agree with you; KOTLC has sold well.  I'm just saying that in general, all it takes to be a bestseller is one day at the bottom of the list.

The problem, though, is that the series remains virtually unknown.  It would be hard to get enough awareness in time for a movie.

    • I want an animated KotLC TV show. NOWWWWWWW. But the movie people cannot screw up the plot or dialogue or anything. It has to be true to the book!

but if they do a non-animated KotLC movie, I want to be Linh. please ignore the fact that I have no acting skill

    • I love the idea of emailing Disney and Universal. Another good idea is to start a petiton for the movie on change.org. Would someone mind starting it - I have no idea how to navigate the website!

Or maybe a TV series. I think that might work better because of how detailed the books are and stuff. Also, it should probably be animated, considering that each movie/season would take a WHILE to make and the kids would grow up fast.

It would be a DREAM COME TRUE for me if I could write the screenplay. Like, I don't need to play anyone. I'm only so-so about acting, lol. But to help behind the scenes? *sighs dreamily*

A TV series would probably work better because then there could be 2 books per season or something, and it'd be better to spread out the plot.

I would love screenwriting for it *sighs*

    • I feel like a TV series would be great, but I'm afraid they might totally mess it up.
