Earth is an element, like Fire, Wind, Water, Quintessence, and Shadowflux.
Unlike the other elements, an ability to control earth has never been mentioned in the books so far.
All elves can use telekinesis to move it and outward channeling to destroy it, though both of these require practice. Gnomes and dwarves are known to be able to control Earth, however. With dwarves tunneling, splitting the ground, etc. and gnomes tending to the plants that are grown from Earth.
