An Aurenflare is a bonfire constructed with large, black, fan-shaped leaves bundled up into a tower. When ignited, the flames form a teardrop shape of every color. The fire emits a smell similar to melted sugar, and the sparks that fly off of it feel like splashes of cool water, as demonstrated by Keefe as he poked at the flames with a stick, showering Sophie and Biana with sparks. Elves often choose to roast food over the Aurenflare. Ripplenuts and brattails are commonly roasted. Once the bonfire is finished, there's a popping noise as the branches collapse and let off rainbow flames into the sky. The fire changes into sparks that look like fireworks and grow brighter until they explode into white light. The elves usually have Aurenflares for special occasions or celebrations.

Appearances[]

Book 2: Exile[]

During Exile, Sophie visits an Aurenflare put on by the Vackers. Other attendees were Alden, Della, Fitz, Keefe, and Biana. Sophie did not know what an Aurenflare was, but Fitz told her that it was a bonfire telepathically. Sophie is reminded of her burns from being kidnapped in Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities. Sophie communicates with Fitz telepathically throughout the Aurenflare.
