This article is about quintessence. You may be looking for fire, wind, water, or shadowflux.
The page for all the elements is Elements.

Quintessence is light in its purest form, and is also one of the six elements. It's very powerful and can be used to leap to specific places, along with being used to make frissyn. It was also mentioned that its alchemy symbol is a Q with an X going through it. Each of the unmapped stars generate a different variation of quintessence.

Acquiring Quintessence

Quintessence can only be acquired from unmapped stars, and it's illegal to bottle it. It is bottled using a stellarscope, like any other star; however, the scope gets extremely hot, as Sophie discovered in the first book. Sophie accidentally bottled it in the first book, causing a Tribunal.

An elf can bottle Quintessence from the all the unmapped stars. Since Quintessence is technically light, elves can leap with it, as Sophie did in Book 3: Everblaze, although it is extremely uncomfortable.
