This article is about quintessence. You may be looking for fire, wind, water, earth, or shadowflux.
The page for all the elements is Elements.

Quintessence is light in its purest form and is also one of the seven elements.

It's very powerful and can be used to leap to specific places, along with being used to make frissyn. It was also mentioned that its alchemy symbol is a Q with an X going through it. Each of the unmapped stars generate a different variation of quintessence. Like fire, wind, water, and earth, Quintessence has been hypothesized to be an element by humans in ancient times.[1]

Acquiring Quintessence[]

Quintessence can only be acquired from unmapped stars, and it is illegal to bottle it. It is bottled using a stellarscope, like any other star; however, the scope gets extremely hot, as Sophie discovered in the first book by bottling it. Due to the fact that she bottled this, she had to face a Tribunal.

An elf can bottle Quintessence from all of the unmapped stars, although it is considered highly dangerous. Since Quintessence is technically light, elves can leap with it, as Sophie did in Everblaze, although she mentions that it is extremely uncomfortable.
