Prodigies at Foxfire take Midterms in the middle of the year, similar to semester exams in real life. For the whole day of testing, every student has to wear a thinking cap, a white cap that reminded Sophie of a Smurf. The cap is built with heavy material and metals, designed to dull Telepathic abilities and preserve the integrity of the exams, making it so that there will be less to no cheating. Anyone found without the cap on is disqualified from the exams. Due to her strong abilities, the cap is ineffective on Sophie. If prodigies get below the seventy-five percent needed to pass in any of their subjects, they can no longer continue education at Foxfire.
After Midterm Celebrations
At the end of Midterm tests, prodigies hang their thinking caps upside-down on their lockers, for them to be filled the next day with gifts and candies from their friends. Many bubbles float along the halls, containing prizes such as Prattles and lushberry juice. Foxfire is extravagantly decorated for the occasion, with silver tinsel and glitter, and parents learn the grades of their children from Mentors (also known as teachers).
Some of the gifts people recieved:
- Fitz apparently got many crush cuffs from different girls (not Sophie), as well as a purple feathered dinosaur (Albertosaurus) from Sophie.
- Sophie got a box of mood candy from Keefe, a riddle pen from Fitz, flavored air from Marella, edible lip gloss from Biana, her iPod from Dex (which she temporarily gave to him to make it solar-powered), a necklace from the Black Swan, and candy from a bunch of prodgies. Dex also made Sophie crush cuffs, but didn't have the courage to give them to her, so he kept them and later turned them into force-field enhancer restrictors.
- Keefe got crush cuffs from countless girls (not Sophie).
