Prodigies at Foxfire take Midterms in the middle of the year, similar to semester exams in the human world.

Keeper of the Lost Cities: Book 1

Lodestar: Book 5

Official Description[]

Hard work should be celebrated - even before the results are in. As such, prodigies are directed to hang their thinking caps from their lockers as soon as they complete their exams. The next day, they fill them with gifts and treats for their friends, which they then pen while their parents meet with their Mentors to receive their grades. The whole campus is extravagantly decorated for the occasion, with silver tinsel and glitter, and treats float through the halls for the prodigies to catch and enjoy.

Testing Rules & Results[]

Testing Rules[]

Every student has to wear a thinking cap, a white cap that reminded Sophie of the Smurfs. The cap is built with heavy material and metals, designed to dull telepathic abilities and preserve the integrity of the exams, making it so that there will be little to no cheating. Anyone found without the cap on is disqualified from the exams. Due to her enhanced abilities, the cap is ineffective on Sophie's telepathic abilities.

Parents meet with their children's mentors for 20 minutes each to find out their grades. (These are called Parent-Mentor Conferences.) If prodigies get below the seventy-five percent needed to pass in any of their subjects, they can no longer continue education at Foxfire.

Midterm Celebrations[]

At the end of Midterm tests, prodigies hang their thinking caps upside-down on their lockers, for them to be filled the next day with gifts and candies from their friends. Many bubbles float along the halls, containing prizes such as Prattles and lushberry juice. Foxfire is extravagantly decorated for the occasion, with silver tinsel and glitter, and parents learn the grades of their children from Mentors (also known as teachers).

Notable Occurrences/Trivia []

  • Lodestar begins with the scene of the midterms celebration — Sophie is thinking about Keefe when Grady and Edaline's conference finishes and they announce to her that she has passed.
