Lost Cities Keeper Wiki

Lumenaria was an elvin fortress built on an island. It served as the meeting place for the six intelligent species, majorly for events such as the Peace Summit. It is also the prison for important or dangerous prisoners who held too much value to be imprisoned in Exile. It was also used as a quarantine for sick gnomes when the gnomish plague was unleashed.

Unlocked Description[]

The original castle at Lumenaria, which proudly stood in the center of its small, rocky island for a millennia, was recently destroyed in a tragic, and deadly, attack by the Neverseen (who also freed one of the prisoners, Vespera, from the dungeon.) The Gnomes and Dwarves helped the Elves rebuild, and the new castle (once again built from Lumenite) is even more magnificent.

Access to Lumenaria is currently restricted until the final security measures can be put into place, but someday it will again be a fortress where all the intelligent species can come together for Peace Summits and treaty negotiations.

It is unclear whether the castle's dungeon was rebuilt, as the two prisoners who were locked in the dungeon had escaped.

The main courtyard still contains the Four Seasons Tree - a silent testimony to a darker part in the Lost Cities' history.

About Lumenaria[]

Lumenaria was built out of lumenite so that it would not be able to catch on fire, even by Everblaze. The layout was intentionally confusing to ensure that no one can find their way through unless they had been trained.

Visitors to the cells had to be checked first to make sure they did not carry with them any weapons, gadgets or jewelry. They are blindfolded and escorted by goblin guards down a stone spiral staircase and several hallways to the dungeon where the prisoners were held.

The dungeon had six arched silver doors lining the room, with no visible locks or handles. To open a door, one had to place their palms on the door to make a combination panel appear so that they could key in the code. The codes change three times a day and were passed along to the Councillors in a random order to make it impossible to predict who would have access at any given moment.

Visitors were enclosed in a force field that shifted as they move. Every prison cell had a waist-high stone pillar with a silver sword trapped permanently in the stone. The prison cell was set to an extremely low temperature. The prisoner was brought a pillow to sleep, but never at the same time, to mess up their sense of time.

For the Peace Summit, the attendees stayed in rooms in the underground quarters that were luxurious and secured with two locks. There have been only four known prisoners: Vespera, Gethen, Brant, and Ruy.

During the Peace Summit, Gethen, Fintan Pyren, Ruy Ignis, and Brant (and possibly Vespera) made use of the skill of outward channeling to not only break out of their prison but also to bring down and destroy Lumenaria.

Location[]

In Legacy, it is revealed that the ruins of Lumenaria are on a Channel Island between France and the UK.

Appearance[]

Before the Fall[]

Lumenaria was a large castle built out of lumenite that sits on a rocky island. It was purposefully confusing and heavily guarded to keep it secure. It's rooms were nicely decorated but without windows, making it feel almost prison-like. The Four Seasons Tree was in the main courtyard, a gift from the gnomes.

After the Fall[]

Lumenaria was rebuilt with higher walls after the collapse. There was also a new tree planted next to the Four Seasons Tree as a memorial to those who had died in the fall.

History[]

Book 8: Legacy[]

In Book 8: Legacy, Lumenaria was shown to be rebuilt.

Quotes[]

“She hadn't been to Lumenaria since the collapse, and it looked like the glowing castle was now fully rebuilt—with much higher walls. A new tree also stood next to the Four Seasons Tree, perhaps as a memorial for those who'd died in the attack.”

—Narration, in Book 8: Legacy
