Lost Cities Keeper Wiki
This article is about the live-action adaptation of the series. You may be looking for Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities, the first book in the series, or Keeper of the Lost Cities, the series written by Shannon Messenger.

Keeper of the Lost Cities live-action film adaptation was confirmed on January 11, 2021, with both an article from Deadline[1], as well as through Shannon Messenger's Instagram[2] and Twitter [3] accounts. As of 2023, no details have been confirmed regarding casting or a potential release date.

Production companies known to be working on the movie include Pearl Street Productions and Walt Disney Pictures.[4]

The script will be written by Kate Gritmon and Ben Affleck and the film will be directed by the latter. Madison Ainley will be the executive producer. Due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike, it's likely that any script writing, story editing, or consultation was paused until a deal was reached with both unions.

A twelve-year-old telepathic girl called Sophie must adapt to life as an elf while figuring out why she is the key to the elvin world before the wrong people find the answer first. It will presumably follow the plot of the first book.

Date

As of 2024, no details have been confirmed regarding casting or a potential release date.

Development

The movie is currently in very early development stages and not much is known about it. However, it has been announced that the script is currently being written. The directors have not yet held auditions, cast actors for the roles, or built sets. Whether the movie goes into production is still an "if."[2]

During the B&N Stellarlune Virtual event with James Ponti, Shannon stated that Hollywood in general is a very slow industry and she's not really allowed to talk about it (the movie). Stuff is going on behind the scenes and everyone on the team for the movie is committed. She also states that "Keeper is not a cheap, low-budget kind of thing. We're looking at a movie that would be hundreds of millions of dollars and that is not something that happens super quick."[5]

Cast

The cast for the movie has not yet been decided, despite the numerous ‘cast revealed’ videos out there.

Extra Information

Ben Affleck and Kate Gritmon have read the entire series, and Messenger notes that Affleck has a very good understanding of it.[2] Messenger also noted that she has no say at all in casting and auditions, but will continue to keep her fans updated on any further developments.
