A Keeper of the Lost Cities live-action film adaptation was confirmed on January 11, 2021, with both an article from Deadline, as well as through Shannon Messenger's Instagram and Twitter accounts.
The script will be written by Kate Gritmon and Ben Affleck, with the film directed by the latter. Madison Ainley will be the executive producer. The project will be produced by Ben Affleck's production company, Pearl Street Films. Further details regarding the film have not been released.
A twelve-year-old girl discovers she is an elf and must leave behind her former life with the human race. However, not everyone in the Lost Cities is thrilled about Sophie's arrival, and there are people out there who would do anything to learn the secrets buried deep in her mind... she must dive deep into the elvin world to discover the memories that have been stolen from her mind. She fights, she loses and she wins, what will happen next...
The movie is currently in very early development stages, and not much is known about it, though we do know that the script is currently being written. They have not yet held auditions, cast actors, or built sets, and whether the movie goes into production is still an "if."
Ben Affleck and Kate Gritmon have read the entire series, and Messenger notes that Affleck has a very good understanding of it. Messenger also noted that she has no say at all in casting and auditions, but will continue to keep her fans updated on any developments further on.
