Juline Kalea Dizznee is the Black Swan's Froster and sister of Edaline Ruewen.

She is a Froster and therefore could be part of the Nobility, but due to her marriage with Kesler, a Talentless, she is considered a bad match, and has lost her place. Though her parents did not oppose the marriage, they nonetheless had the condition that Juline, before she married Kesler, complete her elite levels in order to ensure the commitment both felt could not be broken by the discrimination their marriage would meet.

She is also looked down upon because she gave birth to triplets, which is considered scandalous in the Lost Cities.

In Lodestar, Biana realizes that Juline is secretly Squall, a member of the Black Swan Collective by recognizing her voice and knowing that Juline's ability is also a Froster.

Appearance[]

Juline has pale skin, amber colored hair, and turquoise eyes. It is noted that Juline always looks tired. When in ice form, she is so unrecognizable that even her own son, Dex, could not tell that it was his mother.

Relationships[]

Kesler Dizznee[]

  • Husband

Kesler Dizznee is her husband and is a Talentless who owns an apothecary called Slurps and Burps in Mysterium, which is designed to make all the 'stuffy nobles' squirm. They have been deemed a bad match. They are one of the most loving couples in the series and have a very deep trust and respect with/for one another. In addition, Juline does not lie to Kesler when she tells him where she is going, even if she does take a bit of a detour on the way to meet with the Black Swan. When he finds out that she is apart of the rebel group, he is unhappy at first but forgives her very quickly.

Dex Dizznee[]

  • Oldest son

Dex Dizznee is her oldest son who looks similar to his father and has a Special Ability, a Technopath. While in Lodestar, Dex is upset with her for hiding the fact that she was a part of the Black Swan, he later forgives her. As well as in Nightfall, Sophie describes all the parents running to their children to make sure they were okay, however, she says that in Juline’s case, making sure that Dex would still speak to her. They are not necessarily shown to have an extremely close relationship, but it can be seen that Juline has respect for her son when Biana asks if she has her permission to give Dex a makeover, and Juline says that she'll leave it up to Dex. They do not seem to have as much trust with each other, as when she is revealed as Squall, Dex wonders if she took him to see Sophie to spy on her. She denies this, showing her care for him and insisting that instead she simply didn't want him eating in his alchemy lesson for a second year. However, in the first book of The Keeper Of The Lost Cities, Dex tells Sophie that being a Froster is a stupid talent, implying that Dex may not have much respect for Juline, since Juline herself is a Froster, and that Dex may have just said that being a Froster is a stupid talent out of spite for his mother. However, as stated in Lodestar, Dex may have only said that due to jealousy due to the fact that he hadn’t manifested an ability yet.

Bex Dizznee[]

  • Daughter

Bex Dizznee is her only daughter and one of the triplets. She is described to have red/ginger hair and is a Level One. In one of the books, the triplets are seen running around Juline and messing with each other as she tries to get them to calm down. In Lodestar, Juline claims that she has a trick to control Bex and her two brothers, which Kesler tells Sophie she says every day. The trick does work, however, as Juline uses her froster ability to create snow, momentarily stopping Bex from running with Rex's stuffed jackalope. Not much is seen of Juline or the triplets, so it can be uneasy to confirm their relationship. But due to how Juline always seems rumpled and exhausted, it can be believed that she spends time with the triplets regularly. In Unlocked, Bex manifests as a Phaser. Apparently, she gets her feet stuck in between floors quite often and needs Kesler's help getting out.

Rex Dizznee[]

  • Son

Rex Dizznee is her son, one of the triplets, looks like Kesler and is a Level One. In one of the books, the triplets are seen running around Juline and messing with each other as she tries to get them to calm down. In Lodestar, Juline claims that she has a trick to control Bex and her two brothers, which Kesler tells Sophie she says every day. The trick does, however, work, as Juline uses her froster ability to create snow, momentarily stopping Rex from chasing Bex. Not much is seen of Juline or the triplets, so it can be uneasy to confirm their relationship. But due to how Juline always seems rumpled and exhausted, it can be believed that she spends time with the triplets regularly. In Unlocked, it's discovered Rex will be Talentless. Only Keefe Sencen and Dex Dizzee know, but Dex may have told Kesler.

Lex Dizznee[]

  • Son

Lex Dizznee is her son, one of the triples, looks like Kesler and is a Level One. In one of the books, the triplets are seen running around Juline and messing with each other as she tries to get them to calm down. In Lodestar, Juline claims that she has a trick to control Bex and her two brothers, which Kesler tells Sophie they say every day. The trick does work, however, as Juline uses her froster ability to create snow, momentarily stopping him from creating a ruckus. Not much is seen of Juline or the triplets, so it can be uneasy to confirm their relationship. But due to how Juline always seems rumpled and exhausted, it can be believed that she spends time with the triplets regularly. In Unlocked, Lex manifests as a Froster, like his mother. It's said he "pelts his siblings with snowballs" whenever they annoy him.

Edaline Ruewen[]

  • Sister

Edaline Ruewen is her sister and has a Special Ability as a Conjurer. When she hears that Edaline is Sophie's guardian, she goes to her house not just to see Sophie, but also to speak with her. Juline, upon being discovered to be Squall, also asked to be allowed to explain to Edaline personally, rather than have someone else do it. They have a healthy relationship.

Parents[]

According to an account given by Edaline, Juline's decision to marry Kesler was not met with opposition by her and Edaline's mother and father. However, in order to ensure that Juline could stand what she would face if she committed herself to the marriage, their parents first required her to complete her elite levels. This was done not out of malice, but rather to prepare their daughter for the discriminate her Bad Match marriage would face.

Grady Ruewen[]

  • Brother-in-law

Grady Ruewen is her brother-in-law and has a Special Ability as a Mesmer. When they see one another in the first book, Grady asks if Juline needs to see Sophie for herself. She responds that she doesn't need an excuse to see her sister.

Jolie Ruewen[]

  • Deceased niece

Jolie Ruewen is her deceased niece and had a Special Ability as a Conjurer. Their relationship when Jolie was alive is unknown. Brant and Jolie, when married, were going to be a bad match so Jolie likely talked to Juline quite a bit to handle being a bad match. Edaline and Grady's decision to making Jolie finish the Elite Levels without Brant was based on Juline's parents' decision to do just that when she married Kesler. So most likely they had a good relationship.

Sophie Foster[]

  • Adopted niece

Sophie Foster is her adopted niece and has Special Abilities as a Telepath, InflictorTeleporterPolyglot, and Enhancer. Juline likes Sophie and is glad when she approves of certain things, such as their house.
