Havenfield is the Ruewen home and a place to rehabilitate animals before they go to the Sanctuary. It is off the coast of California, according to the map in Unlocked.

Description[]

Expanses[]

Havenfield is a mix between elegance and chaos with a shimmering gold and glass house overlooking the ocean and vast expanses of animal pastures. The house is described to be taller than it is wide, with a cupola rising from the top. Havenfield also features Calla's Panakes tree, later in the series, which overlooks the ocean as well.

On the property, there is a set of caves that Sophie used to study in, with Dex. After their kidnapping, Edaline and Grady blocked it with a massive gate. The gate, however, is little deterrence to Sophie.

The Grove is where the gnomes that work at Havenfield live.

Most of the grounds are taken up by animal pastures for the animals that are rehabilitating there to go to the Sanctuary.

Interior[]

The first floor has a kitchen and a large entryway. The kitchen is described as very, very clean.

The second floor has Grady and Edaline's bedroom, as well as Jolie's. Edaline and Grady's offices are also located here.

Sophie's room takes up the entire third floor. The third floor also used to be a party hall, but after Jolie's death, it fell out of use.

The fourth floor has the Leapmaster 500, which can take its users to 500 different places.

Residents[]

Elvin Residents[]

Grady, Edaline, and Sophie live there and care for the animals alongside the gnomes that reside there (known gnomes include Calla, now in Panakes tree form, and Flori, Calla's niece). Sophie's pet imp, Iggy also lives there.

Former Residents[]

OutsideHav

Jolie Ruewen was a former resident before she died from a fire set by Brant at his house.

Brielle was Grady's bodyguard before she died in Lodestar.

Unlocked Description[]

The Ruewen family’s estate is a mix of chaos and elegance, between the shimmering glass-and-gold house overlooking the ocean and the vast expanses of fenced-in pastures. As one of the rehabilitation centers for the Sanctuary, Havenfield is home to an ever-changing assortment of strange and wonderful creatures—everything from dinosaurs, to verminions, to the precious alicorn family (as well as the lone mutant gorgodon freed from the Neverseen’s facility). The property is also home to the only known Panakes tree (along with a large number of gnomes who reside in a special grove to gather the Panakes’s healing blossoms). Havenfield is bordered by steep cliffs, which have been blocked by a massive gate ever since the Neverseen abducted Sophie Foster and Dex Dizznee from the dark caves below. Given the near-constant danger Sophie lives with, there are numerous other highly classified security elements to the property.

Quotes[]

“The house was taller than it was wide, with golden columns breaking up the etched glass walls, and a glittering cupola rose from the center of the roof.”

—Narration, in Keeper of the Lost Cities

“Havenfield was one of the rehabilitation centers for the Sanctuary, so there was always an abundance of bizarre animals milling about the lush pastures that stretched to the steep ocean cliffs bordering the property.”

—Narration, in Legacy

Elvin Residents[]

Grady Howell Ruewen - Grady was formerly an Emissary for the council. He is a Mesmer and the husband of Edaline. He is the father of Jolie and adoptive father of Sophie. He is protective of Sophie, going as far as giving her the "boy talk" and keeping her away from Keefe, whom he thinks is a bad role model (he has also resorted to calling Keefe "That Boy").

Edaline Kelia Ruewen - Edaline is the mother of Jolie and adoptive mother of Sophie. She is the wife of Grady, and her ability is being a Conjurer. Edaline is overprotective to Sophie due to Jolie's death.

Jolie Lucine Ruewen (formerly) - Jolie was a Conjurer. She was the adoptive older sister of Sophie and eldest daughter of Grady and Edaline. She was said to look a lot like Sophie. Her fiancé, Brant, set a fire in anger that eventually killed her, which shattered the lives of Grady and Edaline.

Sophie Elizabeth Foster - Sophie is the adoptive daughter Grady and Edaline. She is the main protagonist of the series. She is a Telepath, Enhancer, Inflictor, Polyglot, and Teleporter.

Non-Elvin Residents[]

Verdi - Verdi is a Tyrannosaurus rex who refuses to become a vegetarian, and therefore cannot be moved from Havenfield to the Sanctuary. Because of this, she is called a ”permanent resident” by Grady.

Gildie - Gildie is a flareadon who was discovered in the first book. It is inferred that she is still at Havenfield.

Verminion - The Verminion (it is inferred that only one is currently residing at Havenfield) is a big, vicious purple hamster creature (a.k.a Hamsterzilla) who lives at Havenfield and seems to hate Sophie. Later it was mentioned that new verminions had tunneled out of their pens. It had almost eaten Iggy, but Sophie rescued him and nursed him back to health.

Argentavis - An Argentavis was seen to be at Havenfield in Nightfall.

Silveny - Silveny is an Alicorn that was found by Sophie in Exile. She stayed at Havenfield until she was transferred to the Sanctuary at the end of Exile. In Neverseen, she was released into the wild so that it would be harder for the Neverseen to find her and Greyfell. After giving birth to twin alicorns, Wynn and Luna, Silveny, Greyfell, Wynn, and Luna resided in Havenfield.

Iggy - Iggy is Sophie's pet imp. Sophie saved him from the verminion and adopted him. Dex changes his fur color in every book.

Meganuera - Grady was giving it exercise in Keeper of the Lost Cities.

Stegosaurus - It was mentioned in Keeper of the Lost Cities that a Stegosaurus residing at Havenfield had been stung by a manticore. It is not known if these creatures have been moved to the Sanctuary.

Sandor - Sandor is a goblin and his job is to protect Sophie.

Flori - Flori is a gnome, recently assigned to protect Sophie.

Bo - Bo is an ogre recently assigned to protect Sophie. Currently, he is protecting Linh Song.

Tarina (formerly) - Tarina is a troll recently assigned to protect Sophie. She is now smoothing things over with Empress Pernille because of the incident at Everglen.

Vertina - Vertina is a spectral mirror. She was a good friend of Jolie before she (Jolie) passed away.

Gorgodon- The remaining guards are to be given a chance to be re-taught at Havenfield.

Gnomes - Various unnamed gnomes live and help out at Havenfield.

Calla - Calla was a gnome who was a good friend to Sophie. However, after her sacrifice to her species, she became a Panakes tree and resides at Havenfield on a hill overlooking the pastures as such.

Rooms[]

The Kitchen - The Kitchen is like a normal kitchen, but it has no cabinets or drawers anywhere. Edaline often bakes mallowmelt and other treats in here. For years Edaline had baked custard bursts here, though only once a year. When the Ruewen family wants to eat, Edaline simply snaps her fingers and conjures up chairs, a table, and food.

SophieHaven

Sophie's Bedroom - Sophie's room has star-shaped crystals dangling from the ceiling on glittery cords, and blue and purple flowers weaved through the carpet, filling the room with their sweet scent. A giant canopy bed occupies the center of the room, and a huge closet and dressing area takes up an entire wall. Bookshelves full of thick, brightly colored volumes fill the other walls. It also has a bathroom complete with a waterfall shower and bathtub the size of a swimming pool. She is visited by Fitz and Keefe in her room multiple times throughout the book series and has been left notes from the Black Swan there. In Flashback, it is revealed to be formerly Havenfield's reception hall. Sandor often checks the carpet for footprints to make sure no one has been in her bedroom. In Keeper of the Lost Cities, it is one of the first things Sophie notices when she first sees her room. In Lodestar, Keefe accidentally leaves footprints on the carpet while delivering a bead for her necklace. The room takes up an entire floor, as stated in Book 1: Keeper of the Lost Cities.

Jolie's Bedroom - Jolie's bedroom is a room on the second floor, across the hall from Grady's office that was kept as a preservation of the past until the third book. Lacy curtains block most of the sunlight, and there is no proper lighting to make a garden here either. Crystal chandeliers also fill the room, ridden with dust (another lighting feature). A group of objects reflecting on Jolie's youth lay here, including stuffed unicorns, prattles pins on lanyards, dolls, and books. Two notable photos reside here as well, one depicting Jolie and the other showing Edaline, Grady, and Jolie before disaster turned their lives array. It has been planned to use it as a garden of some form since Everblaze. It is also the hiding place for Jolie's purple notebook, which helps Sophie figure out Brant is part of the Neverseen.

Grady and Edaline's Bedroom - Grady and Edaline's Bedroom was not seen much in the series until Nightfall, where it is seen that this room has a gadget used to manipulate shadows. The bed can be seen from the door.

Edaline's Office - Edaline's office, otherwise known as the "Place Where Things Go To Die" is a room on the second floor littered with untouched stuff. There are many random trunks, folded linens, unopened presents, and many objects that remain unidentifiable. There are bookshelves, that appear to have been untouched for a while and consist of thick dusty volumes that would show if disturbed. In Everblaze, Sophie is given the punishment of cleaning out the office.

Grady's Office - Grady's Office, as seen in the Keeper of the Lost Cities, is a room deprived of anything personal with empty spaces instead of knick-knacks or photos. Tightly rolled scrolls are stuffed in bins and history books, haphazardly, are jammed on shelves. A massive mountain of paperwork lies on his desk.
