Flashers are elves that can sense and manipulate many colors of light to suit their needs. For example, Orem Vacker uses his ability to put on an annual light show for the elves during the Celestial Festival while Elwin uses his to be a doctor, wearing special glasses that enable him to see inside of the patients' body. According to most elves, including Luzia Vacker, they claim that Orem Vacker is the world's most powerful Flasher; he is the most famous due to the Celestial Festival.
A Flasher did something to the gates at Everglen to make them absorb light so no one can light leap in. Flashers are also talented with illusions, especially when working with a Shade.
Flashers are able to use their ability to see physical ailments on a patient. Elwin uses his ability along with his glasses to be able to see headaches, broken bones, etc. For physicians who aren't Flashers, such as Livvy, they can use colored candles and special glasses.
Wylie Endal uses the full-color spectrum against Umber and Ruy Ignis, causing them to be temporarily unable to use their talents.
Glimmer used her ability on Tam’s bonds in Legacy. Originally, it was to prevent the bonds from breaking free with his ability, but in the end she used it to free him.
The ability pin may not be the correct design; it was just a guess made by Sophie Elizabeth Foster while attending Exillium in Book 4: Neverseen.
