History
The Vacker Legacy • The Great Vacker Hurlfest
Everglen is the Vackers' private residence and an ancient property, off the east coast of the United States, according to the map in Unlocked. It's claimed that after Alden gained the property, he made extensive renovations, stating at the beginning of Flashback, that he only kept his office from the original standing property because of the aquariums. Everglen is ancient property and has one room from the original structure remaining. The original structure was built by Luzia Vacker, who claimed she chose the location because she liked the view of the lake at night reflecting the stars. She has said that Everglen was her personal refuge after a hard day of bending the light, and nothing more.
Sophie goes there a lot to play Base Quest with Fitz, Keefe, and Biana. The moonlarks were also brought there temporarily so that Alden could study them. Everglen was the first elvin home Sophie visited.
Fallon Vacker believes that there may be something strange about Everglen that Luzia is hiding, and does not think that Alvar should be sent there.
An apartment was built for Alvar in Flashback, but it was destroyed later on. To Sophie, the apartment looked very human and temporary.
A troll hive was discovered to be on the property, covered by Luzia's illusions. The trolls from the hive destroyed much of the property. Originally, Luzia had a troll hive near the lake, but they soon needed more room for the hive. The hive was destroyed and Luzia moved out of Everglen to her new, less enchanting home with more room for the hives. Later in Flashback, it's revealed that Luzia had another hive hidden near the overdrive from which (secretly) Luzia and Empress Pernille were trying to design trolls that were both smart and strong when newborns. When the sealed door was opened the trolls inside had three eyes and caused havoc. This was revealed to be the Vacker Legacy Alvar Vacker mentioned.
To turn off the former walls of Everglen and enable leaping directly into Everglen the overdrive must be activated. The overdrive is only activated with specific DNA from authorized people and the proper use of the password. The password is S-C-I-O-N.
Everglen is revealed to have two gates. One small one in the back, and the larger, more used one in the front. Everglen also contains the Vacker portraits in the reception hall. It is revealed that they got rid of the gates in Flashback to avoid anyone from thinking that they hid anything.
Unlocked Description[]
Alden and Della's castle-style manor is every bit as luxurious and opulent as someone would expect from such an illustrious family. It's also surrounded by a parklike grounds and overlooks a glittering lake. The estate was originally owned by Luzia Vacker, but she passed the property to Alden when he was appointed as an Emissary for the Council. Everything about Everglen's design is meant to testify the prestige of the Vackers, from the fountains that sprout arcs of colored water throughout the halls, to the tinkling chandeliers and jeweled mosaics on many of the doors. The property used to be protected by an enormous glowing gate with metal bars that absorbed light (to prevent anyone from leaping inside without permission.) But after the recent scandal involving an illegal troll hive discovered on the property, the Council ordered the gates to be removed.
Appearance[]
“It was one of the most beautiful places she'd ever been. But that was mostly because the house was a shimmering crystal palace with jeweled mosaics and twinkling chandeliers and fountains everywhere. The lake...was just a lake.”
“There was a meadow with a house in the center, one so large, so elegant, she couldn't believe anyone could call it home. Part castle, part manor, it was made almost entirely of intricately cut crystal, and among the numerous turrets and the gables rose a tower that resembled a lighthouse.”
“The formal dining room, had sheer silk curtains that covered the glass walls, drawing the eye up to an enormous chandelier - a waterfall of long, shimmering crystals - that hung over a round table set with domed platters and fancy goblets. Plush thronelike chairs surrounded the table.”
“The widest hallway, lined with fountains that sprouted streams of colored water. The hall dead-ended at a pair of doors encrusted with a jeweled mosaic - two diamond unicorns racing across a field of amethyst flowers.”
“They passed through two massive doors made of braided silver, and entered a round foyer, which sparkled like a prism in sunlight.”
It is protected by a giant gate that absorbs light so that no one can light leap directly into Everglen. Everglen has large grounds that contain a forest and a lake where the Base Quest games usually take place. Inside the house, there are many rooms, including all of the family members' bedrooms and guest rooms. Alden's office is known to be part of the original structure of Everglen. There is a floor to ceiling aquarium for walls as well as a large window to a lake with moonlarks in it.
