Calla was a gnome who worked with the Black Swan.

She was involved in Sophie's creation to make sure that nothing was unnatural and would affect the life of an innocent girl.

She's someone whom Sophie grew a very strong connection to, and whom Sophie often looked up to. She bred a few different species of flowers to help Sophie have good dreams and sleep well. Like all gnomes, Calla is very connected to nature.

Appearance

She had long, braided hair and big green eyes, and green rough skin.

History

Pre-Keeper

Calla was included in designing Sophie's DNA and named the project "Project Moonlark".

Book 4: Neverseen

In Neverseen, Calla is one of the gnomes that greets Sophie and her friends when they first arrive at Alluveterre. She designed reveriebells to help Sophie sleep without nightmares. She also took Sophie and Biana to Brackendale to see if it was infected by the Plague. At the end of the book, she transformed into the Panakes tree to save the gnomes infected by the Plague.

Book 8: Legacy

In Legacy, Sophie does her ability reset under Calla's Panakes Tree and describes hearing songs of bravery.

Personality

• Kind

She was very kind and when she learned Sophie had trouble sleeping she created a plant to sooth Sophie and help her sleep. She also asked her friend who worked at a Prattle bakery to save a moonlark pin for Sophie.

• Bold

Calla was bold when she refused to apologize to Mr. Forkle about taking Sophie and Biana to Brackendale.

• Selfless

Calla chose saving the gnomes from the Plague over continuing to live, transforming herself into a Panakes tree.

Relationships

Sophie Elizabeth Foster

Calla was involved in Project Moonlark, choosing the name and making sure that the Black Swan remembered that they were sparking the life of an innocent elf. She also was very welcoming to Sophie, making her reveriebells to help her sleep peacefully and specially getting her a Prattles moonlark. After she transformed into a Panakes, Sophie sat by her tree often.

Flori

Flori was Calla's great-great grandniece, though she always said that all the "greats" meant "the best". They seemed to have a good relationship, though Flori was introduced after Calla's transformation.
