Synopsis

The past and present unravel into staggering truths in this can't-miss installment of the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Keeper of the Lost Cities series told entirely from Keefe's point of view.

Please be careful. Please be happy. And PLEASE forget all about me. It'll be better for everyone that way.

Those were the last words Keefe Sencen wrote to Sophie Foster before he ran away to the Forbidden Cities. He didn't want to leave, but it was the only way to keep his friends safe while he figured out how to control his scary new powers and searched for answers about his past.

What he found was so much more than adventures in Humanland.

Where did he go? What did he do? And who did he meet while the rest of his friends worked to solve the mystery of Stellarlune? The answers go far beyond anything anyone could have ever imagined and give Keefe the power to change his destiny. [4]

The book starts with Keefe leaping to the pyramids in Egypt. He is unsure of what he is going to do now that he is in the Forbidden Cities. His main focus is dealing all the human emotions that he is being hit with. It becomes too much for him to handle and Keefe leaps to an arena and then a forest. In the forest, Keefe remembers a moment in his childhood when his mother told him that he should save his rage for later.

Keefe realizes he's still wearing his registry pendant and rips it off his neck. He then leaps out of the forest and into a very bright and noisy city. It becomes too overwhelming, and he ends up leaping again, this time into the middle of a blizzard. He surveys the area he is in and starts thinking about Sophie, his confession in the letter he left her, and Fitz. Keefe spins the Pathfinder crystal to another random facet and leaps there. He ended up in a very wet, damp area. Immediately afterwards, he felt a bunch of emotions hitting him. Trying to calm himself, Keefe focuses on thoughts of Sophie, imagining her by his side, guiding him through the chaos. As he wanders, a human approaches and asks if he's part of a group wearing blue clothing. Keefe says yes, going along with it, and finds himself boarding a boat with them—only for it to head straight toward a waterfall.

Keefe made it through and only puked three times. He then realizes that he's hearing Silveny and her twins transmitting his name to try to get his attention. That leads to him wondering why Sophie isn't doing it herself. He keeps leaping until he ends up in a quiet winter cabin that ends up being his dad's secret hideout where he paints. He leaps back to Lord Cassius and confronts him, Cassius gives him a human passport where his last name is Foster. They talk a while before Keefe goes back

While researching in the library for the green door, he comes across Alvar, he finds out Alvar can't vanish or leap anymore and that Alvar want's to live in the human world. Alvar wants to prove to Keefe that he changed and accompanies Keefe. He has an obsession for pancakes and shows Keefe the best place to eat. They go to a zoo in Australia and get tricked by a waitress about the existence of drop-bears, they bond and Keefe accidentally gives Alvar his powers back. Alvar tells him to stop blaming himself and they spend time together until Sophie comes to get Keefe.
