On October 13, 2021, Shannon Messenger via AP News[1] and Instagram[2] revealed that there would be a tenth book in the Keeper series. Shannon previously confirmed that this would be the final book in the series. However, on her Stellarlune tour, she announced that an eleventh book was a possibility and that she is still figuring out if it is necessary. While she originally planned for tenth to be the final book, she may need another book for secrets and events that haven't happened yet.
Messenger has said multiple things about this book in the [same] AP news article previously listed above, stating, “I knew from the very beginning that Sophie’s story was huge, but it was hard to tell at that point how many books it would take to do the Keeper series justice. I’m incredibly grateful that my publisher and my fans gave me the freedom, support, and enthusiasm to let the story unfold at its own pace.” Messenger writes, “Now I have the space to reveal all of the secrets that readers have been dying to know since book one, and I can’t wait for everyone to read the final conclusion. I promise it will be epic!”
On March 1, 2023, Shannon Messenger announced that the book would be delayed due to her second baby but confirmed that the book would eventually be released.
On February 16, 2024, Shannon Messenger announced Book 9.5 which delays Book 10 back at least another year.
Plot
The details are still being determined, but Shannon mentioned that it will be a story with many unexpected events and surprises. The first that she has revealed is that Sophie and Keefe's relationship is definitely a thing and will continue to grow emotionally.
What We Know
- This may be the last book in the series; however, a Book 11 is rumored. Shannon stated that she is not 100% sure but felt like the information is piling up and needs to be expanded.
- It was scheduled to release in 2023 but was delayed due to Shannon Messenger's second baby.
- Shannon has only revealed one of Sophie's biological parents (her mother, Oralie) so her biological father's identity will likely be revealed in this book.
- Half of the Collective's members identities have been revealed- (some of) Mr. Forkle's, Granite's, and Squall's- so it is likely Blur's and Wraith's will be revealed too.
- There are technically already eleven books in the series as there are Unlocked, Book 8.5 and Unraveled, Book 9.5.
