Hey so some of you saw my posts on the Complicated #8 thread and wanted me to make a fic out of it... so here! Grab a box of tissues, brace yourselves, and read at your own risk! It is pretty sad. And if this doesn't make you cry, don't worry-- there's worse coming (there's 3 instalments in total).
Also it might get a bit graphic, so here's a warning in case you're sensitive to that stuff.

First Instalment -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Keefe's gaze strayed from his textbook to Sophie, her golden hair falling to her waist, her eyes as deep and intoxicating as the shade of chocolate they resembled. She laughed as Fitz said something humorous, and Keefe averted his eyes. Sophie didn't want Keefe... not like he wanted her. No one wanted him. He was just the boy on the sidelines, with the homicidal mother and the abusive father. He was nothing-- at least to the one he loved.
Keefe blinked back a tear as he collected his studying materials and exited Study Hall. He was about to place his books in his locker when he noticed the small teal card tucked between the notebooks filled with memories of Sophie at the back of his locker. Intrigued, he took out the card and put the rest of the books inside his locker. The cover of the card was shimmery and teal-coloured, which made him think of Fitz, who Sophie loved. The thought made him break all over again inside, the shards tumbling through his turbulent emotions.
Dearest Keefe, the letter began. A small blue crystal neclace slid out.
I hope you're well. I need you to do something-- that I doubt you'll be very willing to do. I need you to kill Sophie. She's no longer of use to us, and I doubt you'd want us to kill her because of our... let's say creative methods, scilicet via shamkniv or slow choking, so it would be best if you do it for us.
Please take this into serious consideration, because if you don't kill her we'll have no choice but to kill you. We'll wait for her body at midnight at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Enclosed is a leaping crystal.
Love,
Your Mother
XOXO
P.S Please destroy the card after you read it.
Keefe dropped the letter in astonishment. It floated to the ground, much more innocently and harmlessly than a death threat would seem to float to the ground. His face paled. His life or Sophie's life-- and even though Sophie would want to find a different way around it, Keefe knew he couldn't risk it. Sophie's life was much more valuable-- why would anyone care if he suddenly disappeared one day?
Decision made, he crumpled the card and tossed it in a rubbish bin. He would protect Sophie at all costs, even his own life. All he wanted was for her to be happy-- and besides, who cared about him? He glanced at Sophie and Fitz, walking side by side to the leapmaster, wrapped in their own little bubble of joy. That answered his question-- no one.
Ro eyed him from a corner of the room. "What was that card? One of your fans, Hunkyhair?" She pointed at the necklace. "Too bad you look dreadful in jewelry."
Keefe faked a smile, even though every second of it splintered him from the inside. "Yeah. It was. Some Level Four, I think." he continued talking, every word exacerbating his internal pain. Even though it hurt, it seemed to keep off Ro's suspicion. Now all he had to do was wait until midnight to leap to the Eiffel Tower to turn himself over to his mother, in exchange for Sophie's safety.
