Sophie Foster has been a book nerd her whole 15 years of living. Her and her best friend Biana have been obsessed with the action packed book series "Galactiboy" since they were 5, when it first came out. They have all the books and all the movie adaptions. So when they get a chance to go on a once in a lifetime trip to meet the stars of the movie, you best believe they are taking it. They're two of 5 people who get to be flown out to L.A, meet them, and go on the U.S tour with the cast. But then, Sophie meets Keefe Sencen, the star of the movie. She falls, but not every story gets a happy ending. She knows this. Or do they?
SOPHIE'S POV
"Hurry up!" Biana yells in my ear. I ignore her and instead concentrate on the question in front of me.
How did Ace get Princess Marki back from Aura?
A.) Tricked Aura into thinking he surrendered
B.) Tricked Aura into thinking he died
C.) Sent Bolt to "switch sides" and get Marki out
D.) Underground tunnels
"Well this is easy," I say matter of factly. "It's B. The huge death scene in book and movie four." I click the answer.
"Obviously," Biana half-screams. I let out a small laugh, clicking on the next button. Instead of the quiz a green screen pops up. "Your results will be posted in twenty four hours," Biana reads aloud. She squeals. "Oh we are totally going to win this thing."
"Don't get your hopes up too high. Millions of people all over the U.S did it too," I remind her.
"We did it as soon as it released though!"
"And there are others that probably did the same thing and finished faster than us." I can see a pout form on Biana's lips and brace for the whining.
"It would only be because those last questions you moved like a grandma," she mutters. She crosses her arms over her chest.
"You want it fast or accurate?" That shuts her up. I turn off the computer and sit back in my chair.
The creators of Galactiboy had released an idea. The first five people to finish the quiz they sent out with a perfect score would be flown out to L.A to meet the cast and go on tour with them around the U.S. Everything would be paid for, no expenses. It was the chance of a lifetime, and Biana and I are taking it. It's worth a shot.
"How am I supposed to sleep? My nerves are through the roof!" Biana starts pacing back and forth.
I get up and slam my hands on her shoulders. "Get a grip, woman!" Biana stares at me with wide eyes. "We're going to call Dex and Fitz, and we're going to go eat. We'll get the results soon." Slowly she nods. "Ok. Now go call them." I watch her pull her phone out and after a few moments put it to her ear. With a satisfied nod I walk around to grab our things. Jacket, phone, money.
"How's Dizznee Diner?" Biana suggests with a smirk. "Come on, you know the foods good! We're going. You better be there when we arrive or I'll hunt you byeeeeeee!" Biana says the last part very quickly and hangs up. I stare at her with a raised eyebrow. "What? The food is good."
"You just want to mess with Dex," I tell her.
That same smug smile stays on her face as she replies, "A little." I let out a laugh and start down the stairs.
"Where are you going?" A voice asks. Biana and I turn around to see my mother and father lounging on a couch. The overprotective duo, as I call them.
"Meeting up with the boys," I say slowly.
"I saw that... Keefe boy released a quiz that gives you the opportunity to go on tour with them," Mom chirps.
"Already did it!" Biana replies for the both of us. "We are so gonna win too."
Mom laughs. "I'm sure."
"There is parental supervision right? Hypothetically if you do win," Dad asks.
"Yes, dear father. Trust me, they would never let poor Keefe Sencen alone with 5 teenage girls. It'd be torture for him," I say. Dad stares at me for a moment, then looks away. Dad has this thing about guys, and me. First it was Dex when they first took me in. Technically, no one was related, so they totally thought Dex and I had a thing. Which is totally gross considering me and him were going to be cousins. (Cue Sweet Home Alabama)
Then it was Fitz. I'll admit, I had a huge crush on him three years ago when we first met. I was 12 and he was 15. It lasted about two years, and when he never returned the feelings, I guess my feelings were just like "aight imma head out" because those eyes no longer turn me into complete mush. (Even if they are totally gorgeous and I still wish I had the same eye color)
"Well we're gonna go before Biana explodes. She needs a distraction. Love you guys!" I blow them a kiss and drag a still squealing Biana out of the house. Next stop, Dizznee Diner.
....
When Dex was nine, his parents opened a diner in this small town of Oakland. It started slow, with only about three customers a day. It was a hole in the wall building that looked like a crime scene. But once they fixed it up, people started arriving. Then, they tried the food and it was over for the town.
It was addictive. Each meal tasted like heaven. And the deserts were the best. They were weird. Some would turn your voice high, others make you see the brightest colors. Don't ask me if they were legal. The less we know, the better.
So when Biana and I arrive, the place is packed with people. I notice Alina, and Mayor Bronte.
Biana and I push through the mob, trying to reach the front counter. When we do, Dex and Fitz are already sitting there.
"About time you guys showed up!" Fitz exclaims with a grin.
"Your sister here was having a breakdown every five minutes," I say with an eye roll. I climb onto one of the high stools by Dex and wait for Uncle Kesler or Aunt Juline to come by. Maybe even one of the triplets. Being part of the weird family meant you got free food, at a much better pace. Sorry not sorry to all of those still waiting for their food.
"Is it almost night time? Oh, I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight." Biana yanks at her perfect, dark brown hair and I slap her hand away. "Ow!"
"Stop! Just chill. Don't think about it. We probably didn't win anyway." I try not to sound sad or anxious, because I don't want Biana to know. Secretly, I'm dying inside. I couldn't wait to see the results. But, if I remain calm, it's a better chance for Biana to remain calm. And trust me when I say when Biana fangirls, it's like there's an earthquake.
"You're right. If we think on the negative side, it'll be that much better when we win." She plops down on a seat next to her brother and pouts dramatically. Then she lets out a sigh. Dex shakes his head, and I bite back a laugh.
"Ayy! My favorite people!" I look up to see not Uncle Kesler, Aunt Juline, or any of the Dizznee family, but Wylie. He's a family friend. His parents, Tiergan and Prentice, are old family friends of the Vackers, which meant we were quick to meet them when we moved here. Since he had a job, we rarely got to hang out, but when we did it was like we were family, not just friends. I smile up at him.
"What's up, Wylie?" He gives me a high five, the everlasting smile still on his face.
"What can I get for you?" I open my mouth to answer before he yells, "Wait! Let me guess." He taps his head, pretending to think. "Scrambled eggs, side of toast, bacon, not too crispy but not undercooked, and sausage that you aren't going to eat but are going to get anyway because you feel like it's rude to say you don't like it."
I roll my eyes, but a smile tugs at my lips. "Show-off." He laughs and takes everyone else's order. About ten minutes later everyone's food shows up, along with the crazy desert we got: A huge chocolate lava cake that the "lava" actually erupts out.
We stand back and count down.
"Three, two, one!" Chocolate syrup bursts out of the top of the cake. We all start laughing, then dig in. As usual, Dex steals the biggest slice, Biana the smallest, and Fitz and I get the same size. Then Dex becomes so full he can't eat anymore and gives it to Biana who says "I'm on a diet." Then: "But I can't just let it go to waste."
Soon, Biana goes home with Fitz, and Dex and I go to my place. We hang out all day, then he decides to sleep over. Mom, Dad, Dex, and I all get together on the couch for a movie night.
My heart feels heavy. If Biana and I actually do win the tour- which is hard to believe -then I would be away from all of this. Yet, I still want that adventure. I bite my lip and concentrate on the t.v. We aren't going to win. The quiz was just for fun. Biana and I know nothing will actually happen. Right?
