Chapter seven: Raven
Jensi woke up, and immediately looked around for Raven. It was as if she was never there. “Raven?” He screeched, mouth sore. All he got in return was a furious Elwin checking his vitals. “Are you sure it wasn’t dream?” Elwin asked. Jensi told him firmly that he never had and never will consider that possibility.
Genekinetics. That could change everything- screech! Wait. He was sounding like Sophie, like it could change everything. Every time she said that what happened? Nothing. The only thing that changed was them. They simply ignored the lower levels. Even after hearing Livvy’s Story, they didn’t focus on elven ailments, they focused on humans.
His own mother was suffering. So much. And what could he do? Suddenly he sat bolt up like he had done with Raven. “Elwin?” He called. Elwin was by his side in a second. “What is it Jensi?” He stared at Elwin. “Can you teach me how to be a physician?”
Elwin just stared. “Jensi your not exactly a Flasher. I don’t think you have the right kind of energy for that.” But something about Jensi’s stare said otherwise. Elwin shifted his gaze. “Maybe in a few years. Your good to go.”
Since Elwin obviously wouldn’t tell him any more about Keefe or Sophie, Jensi decided to seek out Raven. She’d talk to him. But she didn’t exist. He even got Dex to break into the records. Nope. No Genekinetic level Fours. No Raven at all. Dex assured him that if Raven did exist, he would find her. Jensi wasn’t so sure.
On his way back to sessions, Jensi bumped into a unknown girl with short black hair, tan tan skin, and dark blue eyes. She looked too small to be at Fox fire. “Excuse me?” He asked. Her head snapped up to glare at him. Her tone was harsh at response. “I’m a level Four just like you! So don’t go being all rude you know! I’m wearing the same outfit. I’m just child like. It’s my eyes isn’t it?”
Jensi was taken aback. Then he had an idea. “Hey what’s your name?” The gurl stuttered. “Her-mabeth Caro.” “Well Hermabeth...” He said, not unkindly. “I’m a Chronokinetic. I could speed you up.” Her eyes widened. “You would do that for me?” But then she looked down. “Never! I won’t let you mess with my age! But thanks for asking.” She rushed past, leaving Jensi worried with another person for Dex to research.
“Here She is.” Dex said. “She has quite the history.” He added. Jensi practically wrenched the object away from Jensi. He could see the girls doe like face. She looked so innocent. But she had gone to detention almost every single lunch of her fox fire life. Apparently, children blamed everything on her. Pranks, noises, disruptions. Even if it was clearly someone else. Wow, she had a harsh life.
Jensi and Dex both winced. “We need to help.” Dex whispered. “Then take it up with your Krew!” Jensi shot back. “So that’s what your calling them? They hardly need or use me anymore. Only Biana pays attention and she’s always included.” Jensi backed off. “What I thought.” He took Dex’s hand. “I need to find Raven. Glimmer was right.”
