Okay I finished up the Fitzphie one so now onto Sokeefe:
"You were gone pretty long, you know." Grady's voice made Sophie jump when she entered the door of Havenfield. She was really skittish today. He was propped up casually by his elbows against a two-person table, sipping from a cup.
"Was I?" She looked behind her, out the still-open door, and noticed that the sky was darker and the temperature had dropped significantly. "I didn't realize."
"Of course not." Edaline appeared from around the winding staircase with a plate of unknown Elvin desserts. She put a hand on Grady's shoulder and whispered something in his ear as he reached out for one of the plated items. Then she turned to Sophie. "Did it go alright?"
"Fine." Sophie nodded, relieved at how smooth her voice was. Was everything okay? She had essentially friend-zoned Fitz, and it hurt a lot more than she expected. She had a feeling it hurt him, too. Could she really be Cognates with him after everything?
No, She thought, heading for the stairs. Everything would be fine. She was fine. He was fine. And she had a weight lifted from her shoulders now. Right? Why did nothing feel okay?
"Do you want any dinner, Sophie?" Edaline called up. She came to the bottom of the banister and furrowed her brows.
"No, I'm okay," Sophie lied. There was a hint of hunger gnawing at her gut, but she wanted to rest more than she wanted to eat.
"Okay..." Edaline replied. She watched Sophie stroll up the high-reaching stairs until she was gone from sight.
Vertina was ready with plenty of fun words for her when she entered her room. "Ugh, when was the last time you slept?" Her voice activated against Sophie's will.
"The Healing Center, actually." Sophie snapped back, and the programmed teenage girl rolled her eyes.
"You should really stop going there, you know."
"Oh, thanks," Sophie said sardonically. "Next time I get injured, I'll make sure to ask everyone to leave me right where I am." She turned off the mirror just as Vertina was spewing out another retort and sighed.
After briefly changing, Sophie collected her moon jar and held it close, gazing out the window at the animal enclosures sprawled out around the lawn. They were caged in, stuck in one home, some of them doomed by that fate indefinitely if they couldn't be brought to the Sanctuary. But they found a way to make it work. She barely had time to wonder how they were happy that way before sleep overtook her.
PLEASE POST MORE!!!!!!!!!!
