This is how I want Sokeefe to happen:
“Keefe… what are you… saying?” The words were fake. For once, Sophie knew exactly what he was trying to tell her, and knew exactly why what he was telling her was so important. It was scary. But he didn’t flinch. He just… stood there, and stared at her, the rims of his eyelids tinted pink like he was holding back tears.
He shook his head. “I can’t do this anymore.” his voice cracked in between the words. “I can’t walk around, smiling and pretending like everything is fine, when all I have ever wanted is to be with you. You. Are my world.”
As he said it, he reached for his Black Swan pendant hanging around his neck. But all the words that Sophie wanted to say were stuck to the insides of her throat. She wanted to tell him everything, but her tongue seemed to be lead and she couldn’t make herself move, no matter how she tried.
She wanted to tell him that she liked him- a lot… maybe even loved him. She wanted to tell him that when they were together, she felt at peace. She didn’t feel the butterflies in her stomach because… he didn’t make her nervous and jittery. He made her happy, and she liked being around him.
And she wanted to tell him the bad stuff, too. Like how she was scared out of her mind, because she didn’t want to lose him. She didn’t want to screw this up, like she had with Fitz. Oh yeah… Fitz. What would he say? They were friends, but would they continue to be if she decided to take this step?
Keefe stuffed his hands in his pockets, and looked at his feet. “I’m sorry if you aren’t ready to hear this…. I just.” He shrugged. “I guess I thought you… never mind.”
He mustered the saddest and most heartbreaking smirk Sophie had ever seen. “See you later, Foster.”
Sophie lunged forward and grabbed his hand, holding onto it like it was a lifeline. She let him into her heart, so he could feel everything, much like she used to do with Fitz, except this was different. Pure emotion, which couldn’t be manufactured like thought could.
And he felt her fear.
And her joy.
And her hope.
And for a moment, Sophie really thought he was going to walk away, thought he was going to shake his head and leave- because that’s what it looked like he was going to do, from the way he just stood there, his face blank.
But then he looked into her eyes, and Sophie could see a light in them. She didn’t let go of his hand as she said “I can’t lie to an Empath.”
And for once it was him, not her, who asked “What do you mean?”
But Sophie knew he just wanted to hear her say it, because he was gloating just a little. And also maybe really hoping that he wasn’t wrong in assuming….
“Keefe Sencen, I love you.”
Yeah so I'm like ACTUALLY bad at ship fanfics, but i tried.
