The Black Swan's Cipher Runes allows the Black Swan to use different rune system from the rest of the elvin world, which allows them to communicate secretly. Only Black Swan members who are taught the "key" to the runes can read it. Sophie can also read these runes since she is the Black Swan's "Moonlark."
