Chapter 1
Keefe
Even though he knew she would never find him, 18 year old Keefe Senecn's Heart would falter at the sign of any blonde girl. This time it was a girl with long blonde hair and green eyes that made him get all sweaty and nervous. She never even glanced at him though. Nobody did. He was the mute boy. Always silent, never talking to anyone. He could talk if He wanted to. But Keefe was afraid he would control everyone again. So he kept his mouth shut.
The Schools library was quiet except for the librarian helping a student find a book. Reaching up, Keefe smoothed his hair and Checked to see it was still brown before rising from his seat at one of the tables and walking to the exit. The brown hair elixir he had taken from Burps and Slurps was still working great. He kept his hair oily, his face straight and his clothes plain. It had taken no time at all to get into this school. He just had to beg the principal to let him take an entrance exam. Then he was in.
The only time Keefe had talked in this school was when he had to beg the principal. Then he had too.
The halls of the school were sad. There were no signs or acknowledgements or even any color. The walls were grey. The school was by far the ugliest thing keefe had ever seen. Though He did use to live in a world of crystals.
Walking through the halls was a tiring thing. The halls were long and drab. The floor was a ugly shade of white. The library was far away from Keefes dorm. His dorm was a ugly thing two. White walls, grey carpet and a single bed.
Opening his door, Keefe was relieved to find nobody in the room. He couldn't handle another visit from the boy down the hall. He would come into Keefes room and use his Microwave. And when Keefe caught him, He would talk non stop.
“YOOOO” A voice boomed from behind Keefe. Sighing, Keefe turned around to face him. “Hey Darren!” He called. Keefe looked around for who he was talking to. Oh yeah. That was him.
Keefe Nodded to The boy. He couldn't remember his name. It was something like Luke or Lucas.
Luke/Lucas strolled in and made himself right at home on his bed. “So what's new with you bro?” Keefe just stared at him. Not willing to talk. Even to ask him to leave. “Oh yeaaaah. Still doin that silent thing huh?” Keefe nodded and Went to his desk to start on his homework. It was easy stuff. Just some Algebra and then Some Geometry. He picked up his pencil and Started Working on the First page of Homework.
By the time Keefe was done the Boy had stopped Talking. Keefe looked up to see the Boy was gone. He sighed and Pulled out a notebook. Opening the book to the middle he started to draw. He drew hair and Eyes. He drew Lips curved into a smile. He drew Blush Shading the cheeks. Pulling out his colored pencils he started to color the picture. The hair turned blonde, the eyes turned brown and the lips and Blush turned pink. Looking down at his drawing, He could feel His insides squeeze. Of course he knew what he had drawn. Hed drawn Her. Sophie. Sophie in all of her Perfectness. He liked this drawing. She was smiling. At what he couldn't tell, but he still liked the way it looked. She never really used to smile. Only at Fitz. Keefe would try to get her to smile but she was always busy thinking about other things.
Putting down his pencils Keefe thought of her. He thought of her as he turned off his lights, thought of her as he fell asleep. He thought of her as he dreamed about her.
Chapter 2
Sophie
No matter how hard Sophie tried, She couldn’t stop thinking about the letter. As far as She could tell, Keefe had Gone to the Forbidden cities. But she couldn't be sure. The bags under her eyes had grown more now that he was gone too. Vertina kept reminding her. She hadn't slept a wink sense he had gone. When She thought Sandor wasn’t listening she would sneak out of her bed to her desk where she had left his letter. Her eyes would always fall on those last words. Love, Keefe. Sophie didn’t really know why she was so Obsessed with those last words.
Tonight was no different. As soon as she heard Sandor Leave to trade places with Flori she Quickly Jumped up and raced for her desk. She pulled out the note and tiptoed back to her bed. She quietly unfolded the letter and read through it again.
To the mysterious Miss F!
Ugh- I’m already Regretting starting this letter that way. But I don’t have any extra paper, and crossing it out would look worse, So… I guess We’ll Just have to Add it to my list of mistakes.
And I know You’re going to think that everything I’m about to say should also be on that long list of Keefe fails. But I swear- that’s NOT What this is. I’m not trying to fix everything or save everyone this time. I’m just trying to make sure I don’t hurt anyone.
I can’t tell you more than that without putting you in danger, So just… Trust me when I say that the powers my mom gave me are super bad. There seriously aren’t strong enough words to explain how horrible they are. And I CAN’T control them- Just like I can’t stop my mom from forcing me to use them.
So… This is the only way. I don’t want to do it. But I have to. And I’m not going to ask You not to hate me. In fact, It might be better if you do, Because I need you to promise that you won’t try to track me down. My mom will be waiting for you to track me down- and since I know how stubborn you are, I want to make sure you understand who you’d be putting in danger.
I'm going to hide the same way the black swan hid You.
That's why You have to stay away. Well, There are lots of reasons. So again, Please, Just… Trust me, Okay?
And Since this is the last time I’ll ever talk to you, I just… I want to say that I’m really going to miss you. You mean a lot to me, Foster. More than You’ll ever know.
Please Be careful. Please be happy. Amd PLEASE Forget all about me.
It’ll be better for everyone that way.
You’ll See.
Love,
Keefe
Tears Blinded Sophie as she looked at those last few words again. Please forget me sophie. She never could. And she never would. She would hunt him down and tear the world piece but piece if she had too. But before that. She would End Neverseen. Forever.
Chapter 3
Keefe
A tapping at his window woke Keefe from his dreams. He grunted and pulled himself up. Keefe grogely went to the window. Before he could lift the curtain though, a familiar voice whispered at him from outside the window.
“Keefe! Keefe!” Only people from the lost cities knew his real name. And the crisp accent made it quite clear who was outside.
Before he could think to answer, the window slid open. He jumped back in shock. Remembering that he had forgotten to lock his window made him groan. The curtain open and There was Fitz. Perched on his window sill like a bird.
Keefe turned from Fitz shaking his head. “Keefe! Or. you are Keefe Right?” He could pretend. He could fake it. But instead, he nodded. He didn’t turn though. He wouldn’t give Fitz that pleasure. Though he did miss him too, He didn’t want to be found. The fact that Fitz had found him meant that he had to leave.
Pulling a backpack from his closet, Keefe quickly started to stuff it with things he might need. “Keefe! Where are You going? I just got here!” Fitz Exclaimed as he pulled his blanket off the bed. “Oh. You're still not talking?” Fitz asked, sounding genuinely worried. The sound of his desk opening made Keefe Finally turn around. Fitz was rummaging around inside his desk. Finding what he needed he stood back up. In his hands he held a Piece of paper and a pen. “Please keefe.” He pleaded.
Snatching the stuff from him he wrote, I don’t want to go back so don’t try and convince me. Fitz looked down at the words with sad eyes. “But you have too!” And why is that. Fitz looked hurt. “Keefe. Sophie isn’t happy. She hasn’t gotten any sleep. She’s been up all night worrying about you. I saw the letter. You didn’t make things better. You made them worse.”
Those words hit Keefe like a brick. He wanted Sophie to be happy. And she clearly couldn’t care that much. At least she hates me now. Staring down at his own words his heart hurt. He didn’t want her to but she had too. And he did deserve it.
“She Doesn't! That's the problem.” Keefe couldn’t handle anymore. He wasn’t going back. Grabbing a bag of chips off his dresser, Keefe stormed to his door. “KEEFE! Just come back!” Fitz shouted, Sounding desperate. “I’ll tell Sophie where You are!” He exclaimed.
“STOP!” Keefe Screamed. Realizing what he had done he spun around to see and frozen Fitz. Tears pricked at Keefes eyes as he looked at Fitz’s stunned face. “Don’t tell her. Tell her I'm dead. I’m leaving anyway.” His voice was rough from not speaking but he got the words out. “You can move now.” He said. The moment the words left his mouth Fitz blinked. He took a step forward but stopped.
“She’ll be devastated.” Keefe nodded and dashed out into the hall. Running now he exited the building. Heading towards the Bus station, tears poured down Keefes face. He had controlled Fitz. Sophie was not happy. And now, She was gonna think him dead.
Putting money in for San Diego.
Chapter 4
Sophie
Fitz came with the news the next morning. Keefe was dead. Fitz had seen it. He had been out looking for him when he found him. But before they could even talk, Keefe was shot. Fitz leaped out of there.
Sophie was mad. She was mad and Sad. It took all of her power not to inflict on everyone. Why hadn't Fitz brought the body back? Why had somebody shot Keefe? Keefe was gone.
Tears stained her pillow. tears fell down her face in turrets. Ediline had come in five times now offering mallowmelt and cinna creme but Sophie had declined every time. She didn’t deserve food. She hadn’t been there for him. She hadn’t stopped him. This was all her fault.
It's not your fault Sophie! Fitz’s crisp voice inside her head made her jump. Come on Sophie! Don’t blame yourself! I can’t lose you too! She blocked him out. She didn’t want him to make her feel better. That was Keefe’s job. But he was gone! More tears come! She focused on them. She let herself. She blamed herself. It was all her fault. She had started a war with Neverseen, let Keefe leave, let him die, Hurt her friends,
With all her relizations her breath felt cold. She saw a darkness in her mind. It was warm and everything else had turned cold so she curled herself up in the dark. The blames followed her. The swallowed her up whole. IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! YOU NEVER WILL BELONG! YOU KILLED HIM! The blames strangled her. She couldn’t get out. Trapped.
Chapter 5
Keefe
The land outside blurred as the train sped past it. Keefe had ordered food half an hour ago. It still hadn’t come. Keefe had fallen asleep for some bit of time after he dried out of tears. He was awakened by the sound of a cart. His food had finally arrived.
A man in a chef's outfit appeared and apologized for the deley. Keefe just nodded and handed him the money. The man's Eyebrows lifted when Keefe didn’t speak. “The moonlark has fallen.” The man said before leaving the Keefe compartment. Those words didn’t sound good.
Keefe Pulled the lid off the food and Underneath was not Spaghetti but a letter. Keefe opened the letter carefully.
Dear Mr. Sencen,
I have taken it upon myself to notify you of some bad news.
Before he even read the end of the letter he knew. The moonlark has fallen. His Gut Lurched.
Sophie Elizabeth Foster’s mind has broken. Due to it being her mind that has broken we still don’t know how to bring her back. We believe it was the news Mr. Vacker Delivered yesterday, resulting in her Guilt. We know that you told him to tell her that You had died, but did you think of the consequences? We are asking that you return to the lost cities to attend Ms. Foster Funeral. Your Presence will be expected. Don’t break on me Too Keefe.
Sincerely
-Mr. Forkel
No. No no no no. He had done this. He had to bring her back. She couldn’t be gone. No no no no. He hadn’t really expected Fitz to tell her.
Reaching into his backpack, Keefe pulled out something he hadn’t used in a very long time. His home crystal shimmered in the sun. Keefe lifted the crystal. When the beam of light appeared he hesitated. He wasn’t ready to see his dad yet. But Sophie? He had to save her. And with that he stepped through.
Chapter 6
Sophie
THIS IS YOUR FAULT! HE'S DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU! BIANA HAS SCARS BECAUSE OF YOU! YOUR IN A WAR BECAUSE OF YOU! EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT! HE'S COMING BACK. AND IT'S YOUR FAULT sophie? YOUR FRIENDS ARE HURT BECAUSE OF YOU! Don't listen sophie! DEX WAS KIDNAPPED BECAUSE OF YOU
Chapter 7
Keefe
The slicked back blonde hair was the first Keefe saw when he appeared in front of his house. His father was wearing a dark green suit. He was going to. “Well I didn’t expect you back this fast.” His father sneered. “What? Not happy to see me?” Keefe shook his head and started for the front door. “Woah woah. Where are you going so fast?” Keefe sighed and turned back to his dad. “Still not speaking? I thought the humans would tourchur it out of you. Well I am personally and happy. Now I don’t have to hear you speak.” He dad exclaimed.
Keefe just couldn’t help himself. He wouldn’t let his dad keep talking like this. “Shut up.” Keefe groaned and his dad shut his mouth. Keefe had forced all his emotions into those two words so he didn’t have to yell.
Turning back to the house he strolled in. He hadn’t ever wanted to see this place again. Before his dad could follow he hopped onto the stairway and whispered the floor of his room and was whisked away.
Stepping back into his bedroom, Keefe pulled his shirt off. He stalked into his closet and pulled on a dark green tunic. He didn’t bother changing out of his jeans because as soon as he fixed her, he was going back. The sound of the stairs startled him. He hadn’t let his father talk yet. Who could've been here?
“Well I thought I smelled a Human… But turns out it was Just a Nuisance!” A familiar voice Boomed from outside his closet. He knew even before he saw the Pigtales who was gracing him with her presence. Ro stood looking odd among the Shining elegance of his room with her chalky skin and metal diaper.
“Not even gonna say hi? How about a hug?” Keefe snorted at that. “Ha! Got You!” He just shook his head and headed for the stairs again. “Hey! Where are you going? The…. Well it doesn't start for an hour.” She didn’t say it but he knew she was talking about the funeral.
Shaking his head he called the stairs for the leapmaster. He was whisked away from Ro in seconds. When he reached the leapmaster she had followed him. “Can’t get away from me with your Daddys fancy stairs.” She snorted as he picked the crystal for Havenfield. “Uh. The thing is not there.” She pointed. He rolled his eyes and created the beam. “Oh.” Ro said. He stepped through and she followed.
Havenfield, Usually a Beautiful place, Seemed extra gloomy. It may have been the missing chirps and snarls of animals or the sound of the ocean pounding on the rocks. The house looked darker and a bit eerie. Stepping onto the path, not even Sandor came to meet them. Keefe Raced down the path to the house. When he reached the door he pounded. He knocked so hard his fists started to hurt.
The Door swung open and Keefe stopped hitting before he hit Grady. Grady Gasped and stepped back from Keefe like he was seeing a Ghost. “Look who I found Getting changed in his room!” Ro Exclaimed. Grady's eyes were red with tears and his tunic was rumpled.
“Where is she!?” Keefe asked. His voice was rough but the words were understandable.
“Wha…” Grady Mumbled.
“Grady Who…” Edaline came next to Grady and Gasped. “Keefe? But… fitz said…” Keefe Pushed past them, both not ready to waste time. Climbing the stairs he heard voices. At the top of the stairs he stopped. And so did everyone else. The Emotions in the room were so strong he could feel them without even touching anyone. Dex, Tam, Biana, Marella, Stina, Wyle, Linh, Alden, Della, Fitz, and every single Black swan member he had ever met was sitting on the floor outside of the door. Linh and Biana were crying. Tam and Fitz were trying to comfort them. The others just stared at him with shocked faces. Well except Mr. Forkle.
“Keefe!” Della Exclaimed, Which brough Linh, Fitz, Tam, and Biana to look up. When Fitz Spotted him he Immediately looked horrible. Biana Gasped and Linh Just looked shocked.
“I thought… We thought you were dead!” Dex Exclaimed. Keefe Shook his head and tried his best to look sorry as rushed past them all Into Sophie's Room.
Her Guilt Filled him. Her emotions, stronger now because she was unconscious. Guilt and sadness. Pain and Anger. There was no happiness in the air. His letter hadn’t worked. He approached her bed and Saw her. Her face was pale and her hair a mess. Her eyes were closed and a pained expression filled her face. The emotions were strangling him but he didn’t care. He grasped her hand. Tears filled his eyes with her pain and sadness. “Please. Please wake up.”
Chapter 8

Chapter 9
Keefe
“Keefe?” Just one word. But they were hers.
“SOPHIE! WAKE UP!” Keefe yelled again. He tightened his grip on her hand. Stop holding on so tight. It hurts. Her Voice filled his head. He laughed with hysterics and smiled. Tears were pouring down his face. “I’m here. Don’t worry” He told her. I know. Thank you for coming back. His heart clenched at that. Her emotions changed. They were now happy, sad, and a bit… So you aren't dead huh? Sure looked like it when Fitz told me. Keefe smiled bigger. “Nope. You almost were though. Yeah. Sorry. “Just try not to do that again okay?” He waited until she promised before turning around. The sound of sniffling had alerted him to more people. Everyone was there. His cheeks flushed and he dropped her hand.
“Is she?” Edaline asked. She looked guarded.
“She's fine. Just tired so not really talking.” Is that edaline? Sophie's voice filled his head again. Yes. At that Edaline jumped. But Her face lit up. She smiled so big. Tears poured down her cheeks.
“Is it?” Grady asked. Edaline nodded and Grady started crying. Everyone looked a little teary. Even Sandor. Biana and Linh had started crying again and Fitz looked about ready to sob too. But there was something else there. Like he had realized something and It hurt him.
“Hey keefe. Can I… Talk to you?” Fitz asked, coming over to him. Keefe nodded. I’ll be back. He thought to Sophie.
Fitz led him out into the hall. “So. You really care about her?” Keefe was shocked. This was what he was thinking about.
“Yeah. Sophie and I are just really good friends.” It pained him to say but it was true.
“Come on Keefe. I’m your best friend.” He had a point.
“Sophie and I are just friends. If she ever wants more then I’ll be there. But right now. I’m just her friend.” Fitz Seemed satisfied. And that was true too. He would always be there for her. From now on.
“Hey Fitz?” Keefe started. “Can I… Stay at your place? I don’t really want to go back to my dad. And I kinda left him silent so I think he's gonna be pretty angry…” Fitz laughed.
“Yeah. I’ll talk to my dad.”
Fitz left him and went back into the room.
Keefe? He jumped
. Oh Hi! Did she hear all of that?
I… did. Sorry! I didn’t mean to. I was just curious and I couldn’t help myself. I’m so sorry!
Keefe laughed. It’s fine! If I could read minds I would do the same thing. Crap.
Yeah. Did you… mean what you said?
Yep. Crap. Uh. yeah. Keefe blushed and hoped she couldn’t feel that.
Oh. Um. She snapped the connection. She heard everything. Sighing, Keefe went back into the room. Everyone was silent. In the middle of the room was someone who nobody wanted to see. “Ahh. Keefe! Welcome!”
Chapter 10
Sophie
The conversation Sophie had listened into made her head spin. What did it mean? Ready to be more than friends? What did that mean? Like Bestfriends? Or… Probably not that. He just meant, when she wanted to be best friends. Yeah. Keefe Sencen would never like her.
A Shout brings Sophie back to reality. “I wouldn’t do that.” An annoyingly recognizable voice says. Sophie pulls her eyes open to be met with so many faces. Almost everybody she knows stands in front of her. Even a certain person she wished she could never see again. “Oh good! You're up! I’m only here to talk to you Sophie.” Lady Gisela’s voice exclaimed. Just the sight of her made Sophie angry. She had made Keefe leave. She had Ruined Keefe's childhood. “Oh Good! Keefe! Welcome! I was just about to talk about you!” The look on Keefes face when he saw Lady Gisela made Sophie want to Hurl on Lady Gisela's perfect shoes.
“Oh now don’t go getting all attack mode Sophie! And Thank You! You brought Keefe Right to me! I just knew that Keefe would hate his ability, learn it was dangerous and want to protect you. Then He would leave! Then I sent the letter to Fitz with Keefe's Location and Addressed it from Blackswan. Then of Course Keefe would tell Fitz to to You that he Died! You would then Break from the guilt and Keefe would come running back to save you” The words hurt. She had been set up. She had brought Keefe back. Now his mom was gonna take him. Sophie. Open your mind to Keefe. He wants to talk to You. Fitz’s Crisp accent in her head startled her But she concealed her jump.
Keefe? KEEFE?
Ahh! Hi!
Fitz said you wanted to talk to me.
Yeah. I can’t transmit or anything. But don’t feel guilty. I chose to run away. I chose to tell Fitz that and I chose to come back. So don’t listen to her. We will deal with her. You just rest. She sighed.
I know. But I can’t help it. You, and everyone are just so good to me and I hurt you and I just want to protect you all.
“Stop Transmitting! Listen to me! Sophie! I am here to Strike a deal. If you, Give up one of the Black swan Storage spaces in repayment for the one you burned, I will not take Keefe back with me.” That caught her attention.
She wanted to say yes. She wanted to Give a space up in exchange for Keefe. She Turned to Mr. Forkle. To her surprise he nodded.
“Fine. You may. I don’t know where any of them are though. So you will have to Talk to Mr. Forkle.”
“Yes. You may have the one in What the Humans Call China. It's in the Great wall.” Lady Gisela Nodded. Before anyone else could talk she lifted a grey crystal and leaped out.
Chapter 11
Keefe
Keefe wasn’t sure if his convincing had worked, But she was gone. His mom was gone and everyone was safe. He could leave now. He fixed Sophie and now he could go back into hiding.
Please don’t. Keefe, I need you. You said when I was ready to be more then friends you would be here. Well I am! Keefe's breaths faltered and so did his heart. Keefe. I’m ready to be your best friend. I mean. To be honest I already thought we were…. But that's fine. Oh. That's what she meant.
Yeah Sophie. I am ready to be… Your best friend. Cool. Yep. still just friends.
Yeah! Cool! She snapped away. Keefe sighed to himself. Just. Friends. Keefe had been friend zoned. Again.
Everyone was not paying attention to Keefe as he slipped out. He quickly raced down the stairs. The smell of things cooking filled Keefes nose. Edaline was in the Kitchen. She had snuck out too. Keefe Ran past the kitchen and outside. His lunges suddenly felt full. He needed air.
Keefe Pushed open the door and stepped outside. Everyone inside had looked at him when he had entered. They did look shocked but there was something else there. It looked like they were angry at him. He didn’t like that. He deserved it though. He had almost broken Sophie. No. He Had broken her. His ability his mom had given him had fixed her. Was that her plan? Was she going to make him bring someone back? And if so who?
Keefe’s head spun. He had to leave. He had to go. He had to get out of here before his mom could make him do something he would regret. Keefe reached down and pulled out the Crystal too The human worlds. This one in particular, led to New york where he had been before.
A bout of shouting from upstairs made Keefe Jump.”KEEFE” A voice screamed from behind him inside the house. Turning around the front door swung open. Sophie, Still in her pajamas, Came barreling out towards him. Keefe braced for impact as she came closer. Instead of a smack or a punch like he had been expecting, Sophie rapped where arms round him. “At least I get to say goodby this time.” She whispered into his chest. Her arms were squeezing him as if she didn’t want to let go.
Keefe wrapped his arms around her back and squeezed. “Yeah Yeah. I know you missed me.” Keefe said. She looked up at him and he winked.
“I did.” She said backing up. “Bye Keefe.” She whispered. She looked back up at him. Her emotions screamed at him. Sadness, hurt, happiness, And just a bit of love. Keefe couldn’t tell what kind. Brotherly, friendship, or… Maybe something more.
Keefe waved her emotions away, “Calm down Foster. You might see me again someday.” He smirked, ignoring the way his heart squeezed when she looked at him with such sadness. “Bye Foster.” Holding up his crystal the beam appeared.
“Sophe Come…” Before Fitz could finish, Keefe stepped through.
“Whoa. I have never been to New york before!” A voice exclaimed from behind Keefe. Whipping around Keefe gasped. There was Sophie. Smirking at him wildly.
Chapter 12
Sophie
The look on Keefe’s face when he turned around and saw he Made her laugh. “Well I couldn’t really let you go.” Keefe looked upset. She grinned at him and his anger seemed to lessen.
Turning around, Sophie admired New York. The tall Buildings. And that was really it. Compared to The Lost Cities it was meh. But on its Own, It was pretty Cool. “Sophie! Where is Your home crystal!? You have to go back!” Keefe Exclaimed.
“Oh. Uh.” She giggled nervously. “Well. It’s pretty funny actually. So I forgot it…” Keefe Gawked at her. She smiled weakly and turned back. It was just like the pictures she had seen. Sophie Coughed. The air though was a different story.
“Sophie. You need to get back! Come on. Let's go back to…”
“No! I am not going back. Unless you promise to stay!”
“Sophie… You know I can’t do that.”
“Keefe! I need you!” He looked at her for a moment.
“Oh right. Cause I'm your best friend.” He seemed to be upset by those last words.
“You said, You would always be there if I wanted to be more than friends. Why aren't you glad that we are now!”
Keefe took in a long breath. “Because Sophie. That's not what I meant.” She thought about that. Did he mean… The other thing? “Sophie. I meant, Like what…” He stalled. Taking another breath, Keefe finally spoke. “Like what Fitz had.” Oh. He did mean…
Keefe turned away from her, hiding his face. “Keefe…” She took a shaky breath. “I. I didn’t know.” He grumbled something about her being oblivious. “Yes I know I have been oblivious.” Sophie stepped towards him. He flinched. Slowly she placed her hand on his shoulder. “Keefe. The whole time you were gone… I was in a bit of denial. About… About my feelings for you.”
“Sophie. I’m just gonna say it. I’ve liked you since the day we met.” Wow. She was oblivious. Keefe turned around. Slowly at first, he embraced her. It startled her. He gripped her. “Please don’t hate me. Sophie. I need you!” He whispered.
“Keefe. I would never hate you. No matter what.”
Chapter 13
Keefe
Keefe wanted to believe those words. But he knew that someday she would hate him. Pushing away he looked at her. Her emotions screamed at him. She was happy, sad, and a bit… There it was again. Love.
Whispers alerted them to where they were. The Sidewalk was crowded now. People watching them. Sophie was quick to think. “And That my friends is the end of our show! Thanks for stopping by to watch!” She smiled and dragged him away.
“Wha?” He started.
“Shhhh.” She whispered. Had it all just been a monolog? “There were people watching so I had to come up with a cover story. She Pulled him Into a busy Restaurant. They took a booth in the back. “Anyway. Keefe. I would never hate you. And I need you too. Keefe. You bring a smile to my face with all your jokes and you're wanting to protect me.” That was the Kind of sentence that came with a but.”But… I still don’t know how I feel.” A look passed through her, Like she was watching a memorie. Keefe knew which one without even asking. Fitz. She was thinking of Fitz. His heart Shriveled. What did he have against Fitz. He was handsome, Rich, gave her gifts, had a better family. He had nothing. He was good looking, but that was it.
“I get it.You have other options. And we are young. We still have our whole lives ahead of us.” She looked like she was embarrassed.. And she was. It was radiating off of her.
“Keefe, what I meant was…”
“No no. I know. I can feel it. Also, you're still In your Pajamas.” Keefe Laughed, Trying to change the subject. Sophie Flushed and Looked around.
“Is there somewhere we can go?” She whispered. Keefe Nodding Motioned for her to follow him.
The Little clothing shop Keefe had come too when he first got to New York was Thankfully open. “Oh wait.” Glad he was still wearing his Jeans, Keefe pulled out a hundred dollar bill.
“How?”
“Let’s just say, Some of Dex’s gadgets are pretty useful.” Keefe Snicked and led her Inside. The store was small but packed with clothes. Keefe made his way to the back where a Plump man sat at a Counter. Another man sat next to him. “My man! I need a Shirt, and My lady here needs a whole outfit! Shoes and all!” Keefe explained to the men. The First one Nodded and Led them into the back where a dressing room was set up. A bar with clothes held some shirts. Keefe grabbed the nearest one and stepped into the dressing room. He pulled off his Shirt and pulled on the other one. It was a white t-shirt. He stepped out. Sophie already had a armfull of clothes. “Your turn.” She slipped past him and closed the door.
What felt like forever, She finally came out. Her jeans were a pale blue, Her shirt was also a t-shirt but it was black. She had normal sneakers on and her hair was pulled back. Keefe gawked at her. She looked. She looked beautiful. But all he said was, “You look nice.” She blushed and they left the small space.
“50 dollars.” The second man said. Keefe handed him the hundred and got 50 back.
After they stepped out He turned to her. She peered up at him. The golden flecks in her eyes made him forget what he was going to say. “Uhh. Oh yeah. We need to get you back.”
“Nope.” She smiled at him and started down the street.
“Sophie!” He chased after her.
