^Oh yeah, whole other issue but how does Shannon account for the fact that Lady Cadence is the only character (unless I forgot some) shown to actually be disturbed by violence, even though in theory she should be the most accustomed to it??
^ I assume the doylist reason is "because I can't let my main pro-/antagonists *gasp* be affected by given universe rules! that would ruin my narrative drama! gods forbid their actions have Consequences!" but because cadence is a Side Character™ she gets to have Consequences and Dislike of Violence, just as Alden, also Side Character™ got to have his brain break because of repressed guilt. as for the watsonian reason.. haven't the slightest clue lmho.
^I mean I’ve been kind of suspicious as to whether it may be a kind of propaganda for whatever reason, and then Cadence is just a person who happens to be quite averse to it, or you know, a normal person who witnessed torture. So that would be my Watsonian reasoning, for the violence part anyway. Idk about guilt.
Plus it could have also been coupled with the fact that she was trying to save his life, possibly motivated by guilt for what she did in book 4, which never really got touched upon which is odd.
All in all, I think Shannon only uses the guilt/violence thing when it’s convenient for her, though I am really glad she gave Cadence a moment to be vulnerable, even if no one seemed to actually care but you know, it was there. So.
^ it's possible. I like to go with the headcannon that they tend to be very easily impacted by guilt and grief, and often face rather harsh mental impacts following the trauma of witnessing/experiencing/perpetrating particularly violent things (potentially with it less so affecting folks like gethen "stabby mcstabbington" ondsinn due to their lacking guilt or conviction of righteousness on the matter, though I'm less certain on that one), but honestly it could just be a "oh no if you do The Bad Thing your head explodes, so you better stay in line" situation.
(Um. Okay. Elves might have a chance, but like…Nico can summon the dead. Percy can create hurricanes. Jason can…um. Be summoned by Nico. Thalia can shoot lightning, Annabeth is Percy’s warrior wife who also has a demigod cousin that (Lives?) in a hotel full of super powered demigods that kill each other on the daily. Also…
They’ve already beaten Kronos, Gaea, and three evil Roman emperors how hard can it be to destroy pacifist elves.)
But Bronte’s answer…
