In an alternate Earth, everything is exactly the same except for one very important detail-there’s magic.
You and your friends live in the city of Rewan, in the year 2021. When you were thirteen, you were all given an offer by a mysterious spirit—a random power, a strange and curious ability would be given to you, so long as you promised to protect the world when it called upon you. And your sure enough, your wish was granted, and you were given an odd silver bracelet.
You always thought back to that spirit, and wondered what it meant by protecting the world.
Well, you found out two weeks later, when the Abyssians started to creep into the world. The Abyssians are terrible, nightmarish creatures, beasts that only Contractors can see.
The Abyssians will kill and slaughter any living being they come across, and they can only be slain by Contractors, so long as the bracelet they were given is intact and on their person.
See, those bracelets...the abilities you were given? Those powers are what allow you to kill the Abyssians. It’s the Contractors’ job to secretly work together to defeat the hoards of Abyssians that appear in the world every so often.
And of course, regular people can’t see any of this magical or Abyssian stuff.
It’s been three years since that happened. Your friends, now sixteen, have been working to protect Rewan City from the Abyssians, making sure no harm comes to humanity.
One day, during the beginning of summer, something entirely unprecedented happened. Normal people, folks who weren’t Contractors...they started being able to see magic. Chaos broke out when they figured out about the Abyssians and the Contractors.
The mysterious spirit from all those years ago suddenly returned to you, a few days after the reveal of the world of magic. They explained that a rogue Contractor used their healing powers to cure all of humanity of its ignorance, making them all aware of the world of magic, only to cause chaos. And then the spirit vanished.
Based on the looks of it, this Contractor, nicknamed Rogue (creative, I know), seems to be intent on bringing the world for ruins and letting the Abyssians destroy humanity.
Alright, now we’ve got the background info dealt with. Here’s what’s going to be happening when you start the roleplay:
The city of Samaris has just fallen, and its only surviving Contractor has come to Rewan for refuge and to help protect this city. Either you can deny them and tell them to get out of your territory, or you can accept them into your group of Contractors. You have no idea who Rogue could be, so if you bring them to battle, two things could happen: they turn on you immediately and murder you all, or they’re actually helpful. It’s 50-50.
Notes:
Contractors can only use their abilities in combat. Even if they have their bracelets on, if they’re not in battle, nothing will happen.
That bracelet? Yeah, it kind of stores your soul. If it breaks, you die. If an enemy gets it, you’re now a hostage. If you lose it, pray to whatever deity out there that nothing bad happens.
Contractors get cool weapons to fight the Abyssians along with their powers. It’s easier than just beating them with your bare fists. These weapons are summoned by will—they sort of pop in and out of existence.
Being too far from the land under your protection will weaken you, unless you formally declare to ally yourself with whatever area you choose to reside in.
Contractors can sense when non-ally Contractors enter their domain (land under protection, in the case, Rewan).
When the Abyssians attack, the Contractors protecting that territory can immediately sense it. Depending on how familiar with your domain you are, the more accurately you’ll be able to pinpoint the location of the attack.
